A Weekend At The Speedway: A Guide To Hard Summer 2018
It is the official countdown to Hard Summer 2018. The lineup is compiled with some of Dance Music’s biggest and best acts. The two-day weekend will be heading back to the Fontana Speedway in Fontana, CA where the festival was held in previous years. The festival itself will take on a slightly new look as far as comfortability for attendees. Additional water stations, shaded areas, and the entire festival moving onto the grass area of the speedway are already huge pluses to the festival. There will also be new entrances, exits, and easier access to stages that create an even more pleasant and easy experience for HARD festival goers. Everything is getting an upgrade, and the HARD promo video tells us everything about it, which also helped introduce the acts that would be filling up the two days prior to the actual lineup drop.
Aside from all of the features for the festival, the music is why we are all really here. I am here to break it down from start to finish of every artist that is a must-see on this lineup. These are the artists who I believe cannot go unnoticed, whether they are the mainstage acts, megastars, or the up-and-coming names in dance music.
This is my ultimate guide to HARD Summer 2018:
The Back to Backs
Diplo B2B Dillon Francis
Easily my favorite act on this lineup is the Diplo and Dillon Francis back to back. These two best friends will be taking over the HARD Stage on Sunday night, and it is a set that I will not be missing. Their mixture of moombahton and trap music makes an elixir of flavorful beats and headbanging drops. This is also a B2B that will be jam-packed with a little bit of every genre, and maybe even a special guest or two. Honestly, with these two the possibilities of what this set could be are endless.
Zeds Dead B2B Jauz
This one is for my headbangers. If you like loud bass, gritty drops, and the potential of speakers getting blown out, then this B2B is for you. This trio of Jauz and Zeds Dead is a compilation of hardcore dance music and is setting out to melt faces, while making you dance. Look for their set this Saturday on the HARD Stage.
Brownies and Lemonade All-Stars
If there is one thing I know, it is if a person has a chance to be at a Brownies and Lemonade All-Stars show then that person MUST go to the Brownies and Lemonade All-Star show. This will be special guest after special guest, and the element of surprise will be leaving me at the edge of the stage the entire set. The All-Stars will be taking over the HARDER Stage early Sunday afternoon.
On the Rise
Krane combines hip-hop and dance music to create a new mecca of electronic music. He has worked with fellow DJs like Ekali, TOKIMONSTA, and Keys N Krates that have helped him establish himself even further in his career. His range of sound draws me in as a listener, and his diversity in his sets keep me coming back for more. Get a taste of what is to come from Krane this weekend where he can be found at the HARD Stage this Sunday.
While Virgil Abloh is maybe not on the rise, his DJ act is one of the most interesting (I think) on this lineup. The affluent designer also finds himself behind the DJ booth playing wavy amounts of house music with splashes of hip-hop intertwined. The Louis Vuitton artistic director has dipped his toes into many aspects of the fashion world, and continues to make his way into music. Virgil will be taking the PINK Stage this Sunday.
Medasin has become one of my favorite new finds that I have become a fan of over the last year. He has a plethora of recognizable remixes that have put him on the map, and his live shows keeps his fan base growing and draws an even larger crowd each show. His music is lively and creates a fun and lighthearted atmosphere that is the perfect setting for festivals. Medasin takes the HARD Stage this Saturday.
The upcoming release of his new album has me beaming over the fact that he will be playing a bunch of new music this weekend. His album drops this Friday, and he is set to perform on Sunday to close out the HARD Stage for the two-day weekend. With a set time like that, Travis Scott is set up to be absolutely phenomenal. A new album, old bangers, and maybe even a surprise guest are leaving me with an exceeding amount of excitement for Travis Scott this weekend.
Louis The Child
I could go on and on about how big of a fan I am of Louis The Child. My first time experiencing their show was actually right here at HARD Summer. Their set drew me in, and their music over the last few years continues to make me a fan. There is something significantly special about this Chicago duo, and it becomes extremely apparent during their live sets. Time and time again, I will always make my way to their set time. Louis The Child is one of my top contenders on this lineup for having the best set of the week. You find them on the HARD Stage this Saturday.
If there is one act that is for sure to be a party, of course, it has to be Party Favor. A heavy mixture of every kind of genre will be brought to the speakers, and it is about to be the ultimate dance party. I expect new ID’s to be dropped, maybe a guest here and there, and an hour full of absolute bangers. Party Favor takes the HARD Stage this Saturday.
As far as future bass goes, K?D is the DJ to see. He continues to surface in dance music, and is paving his own path of new music. Sitting in the realm of Porter Robinson, Rezz and Zedd, there is a complete euphoria to his music. Raw emotion and an escapade of sounds, creating an entire cinematic experience that becomes grander with every live set he performs. This is an artist that should be seen from start to finish. Find K?D at the HARDER Stage this Sunday.
When it comes to the 2018 HARD lineup, there are no bad choices on which artist to see. Each one brings just a little something new to the table, and with every set time there is a new genre being tapped into to impress the vast amount of fans that will be making their way to the speedway this weekend. Whatever your lineup may consist of, HARD Summer has something for each dance music festival goer, and this weekend is for sure about to be one hell of a time.
