The Chainsmokers Worst Kept Secret
Last week I learned two new things about The Chainsmokers. The first thing is that Drew can rap? The plot twist was just as wild to me as he rapped along with his abridged version of Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” before transitioning into the drop of Skrillex’s remix. An unexpected twist to an already sick remix of Kendrick’s track made for a wild addition to their live set. FYI: their live sets are a sight to see. I have been a fan of theirs for some time now, but after seeing them live a few times, it makes for a completely different experience and one that everyone should be a part of at least once.

The second thing I learned is that they are terrible at keeping their own secrets. Thanks to Reddit, a new collaboration for the Chainsmokers was unveiled and perhaps another chart-topping single is heading our way. Their two new singles into the new year continue to grow on me, but I just am waiting for them to release that true gem of a song once again; I’m waiting for the “Roses” of 2018.
During their social media promotion for remixes of their latest single, “You Owe Me,” a fan spotted a very specific folder lying in the corner of the computer screen. God bless the Internet because we now know the potential collaboration that is on the horizon. The tab labeled “TCSXILL” along with a folder name “Take Away Project Illenium” sent Chainsmokers’ fans into a frenzy of speculation.
For those that do not know who Illenium is, he has the biggest remix of The Chainsmokers song, “Don’t Let Me Down,” that not only surfaces in every single one of their live sets, but has made its way into DJ sets played everywhere. Aside from that, Illenium is one of the most talented DJs, and his music is absolutely phenomenal from the synths to the lyrics. He takes you on an emotional journey with every song. Combine that with the phenomenon that is The Chainsmokers, and it is a collaboration made in heaven. There isn’t any confirmation of when this project will be finished or a release date, but the potential that this has for dance music fans is enough to keep me going.
The Chainsmokers will be making their return as Headliners for the 20th Anniversary of Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The hype behind the 20th anniversary is heightening every day with more and more guesses to who the special guests will be. Some of those rumors are being fueled by The Chainsmokers themselves for a potential Swedish House Mafia Reunion. With the rumor mill flowing with speculation, the drop of the Ultra (Festival) Phase 3 lineup becomes increasingly anticipated.
Along with that, Illenium will be making his way to the Polo Fields in April as one of Coachella’s performers over the three day weekend. There also is the potential of him being announced for the Phase 3 lineup of Ultra, so stay tuned for more from Illenium and the exciting new collaboration coming our way.
