The Drop – Jack White, SG Lewis, & Chvrches
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Alma & Tove Styrke – “Good Vibes”
Alma is one of my favorite up-and-coming artists in the pop scene. The Finnish singer has just released her recent mixtape, Heavy Rules, and every song could stand on its own as a single. However, “Good Vibes,” tells the most bittersweet breakup tale that dance-pop provides. She croons alongside the electro beat, continuing down a path of pop music that I am loving right now.
Jack White – “Over and Over and Over”
Jack White’s latest release off of his upcoming album is modern rock fused with flourishing surprises along the way. Grungy guitar riffs, an enlightening choir of voices, and a surprise bongo solo, help take this track to the next level.
CHVRCHES & Matt Berninger – My Enemy
On CHVRCHES latest release, they enlisted the help of The National’s Matt Berninger for vocals on a haunting and electrifying pop ballad. CHVRCHES has also released their album release date, along with their track listing for their upcoming album, Love Is Dead; set to release on May 25th.
Carlos Vara – “Numb”
Soulful, heartfelt, and everything sentimental in between, Carlos Vara brings all the feels in his debut single, “Numb.” His transitions of falsettos and an explosive chorus make this one of my favorite songs on this drop. An unexpected addition of music came from this newcomer, and I am now a new fan of his silky and pure vocals.
SG Lewis – “Coming Up”
Luscious vocals and a disco essence make this a perfect track to groove along to all night long with its warm house undertones and magnetic beat. This is the first release off of SG Lewis’ three-part album release beginning with Dusk, then continuing with Dark, and ending with Dawn; all will explore three very different moods. Dusk will be released this coming April.
LUME – “Skin”
The music flooding from the UK is absolute fire right now. Artists from all different genres are breaking into the US, and it is an unexpected turn with each new release. LUME is another addition to the UK takeover. “Skin” is honest and pure with a mix of R&B, soul, and just a splash of electro to heighten the beat. It is so smooth and crisp; a song you could leave on repeat and never get tired of.
SLANDER – “Happy Now”
I wish every breakup felt as good as the latest track from Slander does. Tapping into their emotional edges, their new single takes us on a journey through a broken relationship, and alongside it is an electrifying drop that takes it to another dimension. Colorful and full of so much depth, the song captures a new side to these heavy hitters masterfully.
