the drop – charlie xcx, the neighbourhood, and haim
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

- Charlie XCX – “Out Of My Head” feat. Tove Lo & Alma
It’s a triple threat with vocals from Charlie XCX, Tove Lo, and Alma, creating some real pop music magic. An exuberant tune about all the bad choices made when trying to get over someone. However, tacking on an electro-pop beat gives it much more flare. The trio’s blend of voices makes for a catchy ballad and perfect song to sing along to.
- The Neighbourhood – “Scary Love”
The haunting yet danceable new track from The Neighbourhood is something that has not been done by the band before. An electronic backing to the song enhances the “Sweater Weather” vibes the vocals still have, but brings a new realm of potential music they are constructing. A new EP is dropping this January from the indie/alternative group, and maybe an evolved sound to match.
- Haim – “Walking Away” (Mura Masa Remix)
I’m convinced anything Mura Masa touches, whether it is his own track or a remix, turns into electronic music gold. His nods to hip-hop and indie genres in his own musical lane make his remix of Haim’s song “Walking Away” a song to vibe to.
- R3hab & Krewella – “Ain’t That Way”
I fall in love with the vocals from Krewella with every track that is dropped. A future bass arrangement collides the sounds of R3hab and Krewella in a new and fresh way. It has a gentle vocal that is the true focal point of the song, but the drop really brings the tune home.
- Migos and Marshmello – “Danger”
Another song was released from the talent-filled Bright soundtrack, and it is yet another high-profile collaboration. While it feels much more like a Migos song than any type of Mello beat, I’m still into it. A trappy beat and a Migos flow, it is just a cool listen for the upcoming Netflix film.
- EDEN – “Crash”
A simplistic song, yet so captivating. EDEN is an artist on the rise, and keeps his music and mission completely personal as well as casual. An emotional record from his debut album, vertigo, transcends across an entirely different platform of pop music. A riveting sound and lyrics to match EDEN, is an artist to be watched. Get your first taste of his wistful, yet sultry music with “Crash.”
