The Drop – Diplo, George Ezra, & Marian Hill
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Diplo, Lil Yachty, & Santigold – “Worry No More”
Diplo can do no wrong with the music he releases. His newest EP, California, takes a step back from his ‘twerk worthy’ beats, and channels in on the hip-hop core that surfaces in most of his music. An emotional collection of trip-hop that showcases the same kind of Diplo we saw on his 2004 album, Florida. The opening track focuses on chasing your dreams and the journey along the way with the help of Yachty and Santigold. This song is my absolute favorite off of California.
George Ezra – “Paradise”
George Ezra has just released his newest album, Staying at Tamara’s, and while I loved the album as a whole, the true standout for me is “Paradise.” It is lighthearted and oozing with love. The exciting lyrics about the way love should feel and a bouncy beat, make this song impossible to not fall in love with it.
Marian Hill – “Differently”
Marian Hill’s new song tells the story about the obsessive ex-girlfriend, but with silky vocals and catchy beats that makes the story a hell of a lot cooler. Marian Hill always comes with the jazzy synths and minimalistic tones, which forever makes their music standout to me. “Differently” is another addition to their well-rounded repertoire of music, and is definitely worth a listen.
Chloe x Halle & Joey Bada$$ – “Happy Without Me”
I am obsessing over music’s newest duo, Chloe x Halle. They incorporate hip-hop, R&B, and soul into every single song, and “Happy Without Me” captures everything that is great about them as a duo with some help from Joey Bada$$. His flow effortlessly pairs with the girl’s crisp vocals, making an emotionally charming track. Listen to Chloe x Halle’s full album, The Kids Are Alright, to get the full vibe of this duo.
San Holo & Taska Black – “Right Here, Right Now”
This is San Holo’s first original track of the year, and it is as warm and velvety as ever. San features his own vocals on the track, along with his electric guitar riffs over the synth-filled drop with the help of producer Taska Black. The song is easy listening for the summertime season that is on its way.
Autograf, Lils, & Bonsai Mammal – “Dead Soon”
Inspiring lyrics about seizing not just the day, but every single moment of your life, Autograf brings to life that concept into a moody, yet vibrant track. It has an euphoric build to it that releases into a massive future bass drop, elevating the song to new heights.
