The Drop – Janelle Monáe, Vance Joy, & Logic
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Janelle Monáe – “Make Me Feel”
Janelle Monáe has finally released her first glimpse of her upcoming LP after nearly five years with two new singles; it is an ode to ’80s pop gold with flashy synths and bouncy guitar riffs. Her expressive lyrics continue to establish how versatile she is as an artist. This is absolutely my new favorite song on The Drop– I am so excited to see Janelle Monáe releasing music again.
Vance Joy – “I’m With You”
Vance Joy has made his way on to several drops as he prepared to release his newest album, Nation of Two. The entire album is absolutely stunning, full of pure vernacular and beautiful rhythms, however one song stood out as my favorite. “I’m With You” is innocent and floats with simplicity. It is love in its purest form of a song, and Vance Joy really exceeds everything for me on this one.
David Guetta, Martin Garrix, & Brooks – “Like I Do”
Quite the dynamic duo surfaces when David Guetta and Martin Garrix come together to make music. On their latest release, they bring hard-hitting energetic house that is for sure a club and festival anthem.
Twin Shadow & Haim – “Saturdays”
This song feels like the way any John Cusack movie makes me feel. Lighthearted, fun, and full of sunshine and love. Twin Shadow and Haim are such a complementing duo with their natural ’80s fused tones; it is a match made for a Saturday road trip full of easy listening and soft croons.
Logic – “44 More”
A follow-up to his 2016 “44 Bars,” Logic flexes and boasts over his current state in the rap game. In his recent releases, he has tackled very serious issues and had one of the biggest songs of 2017. Shuffling into 2018, Logic continues to make his mark on the charts starting with “44 More.”
Sigala & Paloma Faith – “Lullaby”
Honestly, there isn’t anything really to this song except it is just going to make you feel good. Happy music is my favorite kind of music, and Sigala always delivers in that category. “Lullaby” has memorable lyrics and bubbly drops that make you want to dance. Add this to all your playlists for a guaranteed mood changer.
5 Seconds of Summer – “Want You Back”
Guilty pleasures are my forte, and 5 Seconds of Summer is at the top of that category for me. This track, however, is very different from previous releases with a much more mature texture. The pop rock infused single accentuates everything that is good about this band — soft-toned vocals and catchy lyrics make this song one to love and have on repeat.
Yellow Claw & Bok Mero – “Loudest MF”
The Drop just would not feel complete if there wasn’t some trap filled bass to round it out. This week that elixir comes from Yellow Claw. The Dutch duo released their four track EP, Amsterdam Trap Music Vol. 3, with help from Valentino Khan, Bok Nero, and Stoltenhoff. While all the tracks on the EP are absolute fire, “Loudest MF” is the best introduction you could have to a heavy-hitting trap EP.
