Hip Hop Makes a Move at the Emmys: Chance the Rapper and Common Among Nominees
The Emmy’s nominations were announced today, and it looks like the Emmy’s are showing the hip-hop culture love this year. Not surprisingly, the list includes actors and actresses such as Sterling K. Brown, Donald Glover and Viola Davis; but more interestingly is that even Hip-hop musicians are in on the list too!
Rap artists such as Common, Snoop Dogg, Chance the Rapper, and LL Cool J are among the rap artists that were nominated for the Emmy’s.
This wouldn’t be the first award that Chance the Rapper won, being the winner of three Grammy Awards already this year, but it would be his first Emmy. Chance the Rapper was nominated for Outstanding Music and Lyrics from Saturday Night Live, “Last Christmas.” Chance showed this appreciation on twitter as he heard about the news.
Snoop Dogg is nominated for Outstanding Host for a Reality Television Show, “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.”
Common who has won a Grammy and Oscar before, is nominated in the same category in the documentary “13th” by Ava DuVernay for the song, “Letter to the Free.”
The Emmys will be presented in Los Angeles on Sept. 17.
