Hollywould: ‘Dune,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
The film and television business moves at a mile a minute, so keeping up with the latest news can be a little daunting. Not to worry—we have your back. In Hollywould, we’ll round up the industry developments you need to know. Here’s what you may have missed:
Dune
Coming Soon asked Rebecca Ferguson how her character’s relationship with Paul Atreides will be portrayed in the upcoming adaptation:
“Completely and utterly honors the strength of Jessica–the Bene Gesserit that she is, even though she is a concubine and her rights are not as high as the King or what her son becomes. Denis was very much aligned with creating empowerment and powerful moments for her where they were needed. I think Frank Herbert… when he wrote it he didn’t really live in an understandably equal environment. And the book is great! It has beautiful moments in it. It’s not really where we are or where we should be.”
Pirates of the Caribbean
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chernobyl creator, Craig Mazin, will write the screenplay for the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. Ted Elliot, who has worked on the franchise since the beginning, will co-write.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ewan McGregor told Men’s Journal that the upcoming Obi-Wan series will run for six episodes—each an hour long. “His arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with that the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered at the end of Episode III.” Production begins in 2020.
Inferno
Deadline reports Taylor Kitsch has the lead role in Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming science fiction project, Inferno. Kitsch plays a cop who is certain that a serial killer is secretly an alien, and comes “face-to-face with a humanoid beast who will stop at nothing to exterminate the one witness to [its] crime.”
Hobbs & Shaw 2
Chris Morgan, screenwriter of Hobbs & Shaw, confirmed to Screen Rant that the identity of the first film’s mystery villain will be revealed in the sequel:
“This speaks specifically to being able to tell a story in a cinematic universe where not everything has to be jammed into one story, one thing. That is an ongoing reveal. I would direct the audience to… just hold on.”
Moneypenny
Naomie Harris told Good Morning America that Moonlight‘s Barry Jenkins wants to helm a James Bond spinoff focused on the character, Moneypenny:
“Yes, he’s wanted to do a badass/kickass kind of action-thing with Moneypenny— which I’m all for, actually. I got together with Barbara Broccoli, our producer, and was like, “let’s make this happen!” But she wasn’t so down for it. So…maybe one day. Who knows? The conversation has started, at least. And we’re continuing it here.”

Untitled DC Project
Doctor Sleep director and The Haunting of Hill House creator, Mike Flanagan, told Cinépop that he’d met with Warner Bros. about a DC project:
“This movie happened because of that. I was taking a meeting at Warner Bros. to talk about the DC Universe, and at that meeting—I was meeting with Jon Berg—we were talking about Steven King because I had just finished Gerald’s Game. And that’s how the whole thing started—because I went in hoping to direct a DC movie.”
Aquaman 2
Speaking of DC, Jason Momoa told ET that the Aquaman sequel will be “way bigger”:
“There’s a lot more in store on so many more levels. There’s going to be a lot. It’s way bigger!”
