Hollywould: ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘The Matrix,’ and ‘Zombieland’
The film and television business moves at a mile a minute, so keeping up with the latest news can be a little daunting. Not to worry—we have your back. In Hollywould, we’ll round up the industry developments you need to know. Here’s what you may have missed:
Spider-Man
Sony and Disney have reached an agreement to produce a third Spider-Man film—one slated for a July 2021 release. Kevin Fiege had the following to say:
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
The Matrix 4
Keanu Reeves told Entertainment Tonight that the script for the fourth Matrix film is “very ambitious—as it should be.”
Zombieland 2: Double Tap
Ruben Fleischer, the film’s director, gave Fandango the rundown on the zombie situation:
“I think our heroes are a little complacent because the zombies don’t present much of a challenge anymore. They’ve started to categorize them into different groups. There’s ones that they call Homers, who are kind of the dumber zombies. There are the Ninjas who are a little bit more crafty and they might sneak up on you. And then there’s the Hawkings, who are smarter zombies.”
“There’s a new kind of zombie that they haven’t met before called a T-800, a name for the infamous Terminator. These T-800s are much more dangerous, threatening form of zombie. For the first time, I think our heroes feel like they’re in true jeopardy because of this newly evolved form of zombie.”
Cruella
Disney’s Cruella has added Kirby Howell-Baptiste in an undisclosed role, according to Variety.
A Quiet Place 2
Production has wrapped on the sequel to the horror hit, according to John Krasinski on Twitter.

Black Widow
Similarly, David Harbour has completed his work on Black Widow:
The Little Mermaid
Deadline has word that Disney is considering Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) or Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home) for the role of Prince Eric for the developing live-action of The Little Mermaid remake. Sorry, fans… Harry Styles passed on the role.
Creepshow
Speaking with /Film, Rob Schrab called his episode “The Avengers of werewolf stories.”
“Well, I had this story brewing in my head for years, long before Creepshow. I’ve always had a love for werewolves and had a love for war action. I just wanted to mash them up. When I was working with Greg and pitching this story, I said, ‘Hey, we’ve got an opportunity here to not only pay homage to horror and war comics, but also an opportunity to pay homage to all the werewolf stories.’ Greg’s a big werewolf fan, too. I wanted to see what would happen if the Wolfman, Rob Bottin’s Howling werewolf, and Rick Baker’s American Werewolf in London, what would happen if they were all in the same story together. When our guys change, I’m just looking for that comic book splash page. I really got excited when that was possible. I kept waiting for, as I was writing the script and putting it together, I was waiting for the call where either Shudder or Greg or whoever would say, ‘Yeah, we can’t afford it.’ But Greg just loved the idea and wouldn’t allow us to phone in the coolest part of this, which is the werewolves. So I’m totally in debt to Greg for having that enthusiasm and refusal to not do anything half-assed. It’s great.”
