Spielberg After Dark
Steven Spielberg is working on a horror project that viewers can only watch after sunset, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A series for Jeffrey Katzenberg’s upcoming Quibi platform, Spielberg After Dark will pair with cell phone technology to track dawn and dusk, letting episodes play only after the sun goes down. “Steven Spielberg came in and said, ‘I have a super scary story…,’ but he said, ‘I only want people to watch it at midnight … It’s a creepy idea and when they watch it, I want it to be creepier.”

According to The Wrap, Aaron McGruder and Sony are teaming up for a reboot of the animated series The Boondocks, which is based on McGruder’s comic of the same name. The series, dubbed “re-imagining,” pits the Freeman family “against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules the fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.”
Quentin Tarantino told Empire that his Star Trek film is still being developed, and it’s going to sound like a Tarantino film: lots of swearing. “It’s an R-rated movie. If I do it, it’ll be R-rated.” Tarantino has yet to officially sign on to direct, but there is a completed script.
Speaking with Deadline, Monkeypaw’s creative director, Ian Cooper, revealed the film’s true villain: toxic fans.
“We talk a lot about fans and the idea of appeasing fans and when you do that and how do you do that and when do you not do that. I think my issue with fandom is that it’s really problematic. It’s probably the most problematic thing facing the genre. It typically comes with a dogma that is abrasive and that is more resistant to change and permutation than you would think. I think what we’re trying to do with Candyman is both be mischievous in how we address the relationship to the first film but also be very satisfying.”
“What we’re doing with Candyman and how Jordan [Peele] is crafting it on the page is going to be very exciting and rewarding to audiences that haven’t seen the original film as well as people who’ve seen the original film. In a broad sense of the word, this film will stand alone if you’ve never heard of a film called Candyman and will dovetail in a pretty complicated and interesting way to the original. In short, I think this will really fit in with what we’re doing with Us and did with Get Out in a way that will be circuitous. It’s something Jordan has been talking to me about for many years and it’s gone through iterations that are so high concept they’re basically a Gus Van Sant film. They’ve gone through many iterations let’s just say.”
A Quiet Place 2
Speaking with IndieWire, Brian Tyree Henry floated the possibility of learning more about the first film’s monsters:
“I think that we’re going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think that people want to know that. But I think you’re just going to see another side of it…more of humanity that survived this thing in this next story.”
