Hollywould: ‘Star Wars,’ ‘The Last Adventure of Constance Verity,’ and ‘Russian Doll’
The film and television business moves at a mile a minute, so keeping up with the latest news can be a little daunting. Not to worry—we have your back. In Hollywould, we’ll round up the industry developments you need to know. Here’s what you may have missed:
Star Wars
According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a series on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. Unfortunately, details are scarce.
Night Wolf
Kevin Hart is attached to produce and star in Night Wolf, a comedy from Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (who are the writers of Detective Pikachu). Hart plays an engaged man who meets his future father-in-law and discovers the man’s secret identity: the vigilante superhero, Night Wolf.
The Last Adventure of Constance Verity
Awkwafina will star in an adaptation of A. Lee Martinez’s fantasy novel series, per Deadline. The story follows “Constance Verity who, for mysterious reasons, was thrust into a battle with the supernatural from the moment she was born and has been saving the world from disaster ever since. Now Connie is exhausted and wants to sample what she has missed out on — a boyfriend, a normal job, best friends — but it’s not easy to walk away from a life of adventure when in fact you are the chosen one.”
Doctor Doom
Speaking with Deadline, Noah Hawley revealed he has completed a script:
“I mean, where it stands is now that the movie is done and Legion is done and I’ve taken a little time off because someone told me there was this word “vacation,” which means you don’t work, which sounded really interesting to me. But you know, I need to circle back to them and announce that I would love to make it and figure out if that’s something that is possible. Whether or not they already have a plan in place for what to do with those characters or whether they’re open to my kind of vision for what to do with those characters. But it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air.”
Russian Doll
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Natasha Lyonne said Russian Doll would end after three seasons… probably:
“In many ways [I still see the show as three seasons], yes. I see it quite concretely, and it will be interesting to see what evolves. The beauty of the power of the writers room is that Alan [Charlie Barnett] was a very different character in the original pitch and pilot. Month two of the room is where he really came alive. Before then, he had been a whole variety of other figures and now, looking back, imagining that show without Alan is almost impossible. Because of that experience, I know there has to be space left open for something beyond my limited imagination in this moment to know if that is still where the series begins, middles and ends. Maybe it’s only two seasons. Maybe it’s four seasons. Right now, it feels quite clearly that it is those three.”
