On Wax: Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa, Higher Brothers Announce ‘Five Stars’ Album, & First Migos’ Single of 2019
HIGH BROTHERS DROP FIVE STARS TRACKLIST
With what had to be one of the most interesting ways of dropping a tracklist, High Brothers released a video for their song, “Five Stars Album.” The music video features a young boy running around the city dancing, while the different tracks on the album appear. The names featured on the album (which are dropping February 22nd) are Denzel Curry, Ski Mask The Slump God, Rich Brian, Big Draco himself, ScHoolBoy Q, J.I.D, NIKI, Guapdad4000, and KOHH. With such an interesting mix, the High Brothers have definitely made their album a must to listen to.
WIZ AND CURREN$Y DROP 2009
After rereleasing their classic mixtape How Fly last week, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y release a new tape that is properly titled 2009. The duo revisit the sonic magic that made the tape so popular. While the opener, “Garage Talk,” is a throwback to `80s hip-hop, the rest of the tape features a smooth trap sound that is very reminiscent of 2009. Wiz and Spitta sound as great as ever together, and neither attempts to out rap the other—instead they both join together to make a consistent weed-smoking jam. It’s easy to see why both artists were so popular ten years ago, and as a duo, there isn’t anything quite like them still.
FIRST SINGLE OF THE YEAR FOR MIGOS
Migos return with their first single of 2019 titled “Position To Win.” The track features a more early trap sound that is similar to old school rapper, Gucci Mane. The group also features some more EDM elements, creating an interesting blend. It’s nice to see Migos experimenting with their sound, as the signature trap sound they helped popularize is rather oversaturated today.
MEEK MILL RECRUITS DRAKE FOR “GOIN BAD”
Seeing Drake and Meek Mill together has to be one of the warmest things in hip-hop, considering their heated past. The two appear to be better than ever with their chemistry shining bright on the track, “Going Bad.” Whether you like the track or not, this is one you can’t deny is a W.
AMINÉ LINKS WITH YBN CORDAE FOR “BLACKJACK” (REMIX)
Much like Aminé’s last single, “REEL IT IN,” the Portland MC comes through with a remix of his latest single titled “BLACKJACK”. Aminé enlists DMV lyrical youngster, YBN Cordae, to attack the beat. The song slaps with or without Cordae, however, he has no problem eating the beat. It’s great to see both of these artists work together, as the collab was unexpected.

MEMBERS ONLY FREESTYLE
If you didn’t get a chance to check out the recently released Members Only Vol. 4 album, a good sneak peek of it can be found as most of group drops a freestyle. For hip-hop, it’s friendly and good to see this kind of bond amongst hungry individuals. Each member brings their own unique style to the table, demonstrating just how much this group has to give.
Stay tuned for our Grammy’s recap!
Until next time, it’s On Wax.
