On Wax: Gucci Mane, Frank Ocean + More
ON WAX IS A WEEKLY TAKE UPDATING YOU ON THE POCKET OF CULTURE KNOWN AS HIP-HOP. WE BRING YOU EVERYTHING FROM BREAKING NEWS TO ALBUM DROPS, JAIL TIME AND WHO’S BEEFING WITH WHO.
Gucci Mane Dropped 2nd Project
Dropping an album to follow-up his 2016 mixtape, Woptober, Gucci Mane hit fans with Woptober II. The album host features from artists like DaBaby, NBA Youngboy, Megan Thee Stallion, Kodak Black, and Lil Baby. The overall sound is consistent, but not one part goes stale. Woptober II is enjoyable from start to finish, with more than enough tracks to keep the listener engaged. In lieu of the album dropping, Gucci Mane stopped by Hot 97 to talk to Ebro in the Morning. There he went over his new Gucci Cruise 2020 collection, which is a long awaited collaboration from Gucci; he spoke about past issues between himself and Gucci.
Frank Ocean Blesses the People
It has been two years since Frank Ocean has dropped any new music, however, (thankfully) we received a new song before the year ends. The new track, “DHL,” is a beautiful, sad song that explores Frank in a more hip-hop style. He raps more than he sings, going on a tangent of flexing and drug use. His openness and attitude on the track is very compelling, making him feel relatable regardless of gender, race, creed, or sexuality. Hopefully, there is a full-length album on its way.
Yo Gotti Dropped a Remix
If you felt there was something missing to Yo Gotti’s “Pose,” you might have been right. The remix for that track just dropped, and while it only adds Megan Thee Stallion, it further exclamates how good the track is. The three piece from each verse makes it a powerhouse track, leaving most wondering if a video is in the works.
Kash Doll Interview
After releasing her debut album, Stacked, Kash Doll stopped by The Breakfast Club to give listeners a little bit more insight to not only her new project, but herself. The album host two incredible features from hip-hop heavyweights, Big Sean and Lil Wayne, as well as tracks with Summer Walker and Teyana Taylor. In this booming era of hip-hip, could Kash Doll be ahead in the race of rising female rappers?
The G$ Lil Ronnie Streak Continues
BACK AGAIN! This time, G$ Lil Ronnie unites with TSF’s Sauce Walka for “Juice Talk.” With each track getting more and more hype, G$ Lil Ronnie’s hot streak looks far from going stale. However, with the release of his new music, one has to wonder if this is his breakout cue or another upcoming project…?
Until next time, it’s On Wax.
