On Wax- NIPSEY HUSSLE PASSES AT 33, SAWEETIE RELEASES NEW PROJECT, & CHARGES AGAINST DABABY DROPPED
ON WAX IS A WEEKLY TAKE UPDATING YOU ON THE POCKET OF CULTURE KNOWN AS HIP-HOP. WE BRING YOU EVERYTHING FROM BREAKING NEWS TO ALBUM DROPS, JAIL TIME AND WHO’S BEEFING WITH WHO.
SAWEETIE RELEASES “ICY”
After building up plenty of hype, Saweetie has released her newest project, ICY. The Bay Area rapper showcases her version of modern trap and hyphy music, making an excellent hybrid blend of both on this project. She gets help from her Migos’ boyfriend, Quavo, on several tracks, adding flavor. All in all, Saweetie is a girl who knows what she wants, and her ability to display that music is truly impressive.
YBN NAHMIR STEPS IT UP WITH “BABY 8”
Upcoming rapper, DaBaby, was given reprieve after an altercation that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old. The police have identified it as an isolated situation and found DaBaby not guilty, allowing him to walk away with only being booked with carrying a firearm. This setback would not stop DaBaby from doing press, as he stopped by L.A. Leakers where he talked about his most recent project, “Baby on Baby,” that released March 1st. He also dropped a video on a jet for his third track on his album titled “Goin Baby.” Overall, the artist seems to be unphased, charged and ready to take the rap game by storm. The question is… Can he do it?
NGHTMRE RECRUITS A$AP FERG FOR “REDLIGHT”
With the two on the track, you might detect nothing but magic, however, it may be a bit off. Ferg does come in as aggressive, which kind of makes his vocals clash a little bit, while the beat stands in front of your face. Whether or not you enjoy the track, it is completely up to you. Yet, fans of both can enjoy the collab as a crossover between genres, making another track for the public to enjoy during their live shows. The visuals are also a treat, so if you haven’t taken the time to watch them, feel free to check that out below.
NIPSEY HUSSLE PASSES AWAY AT 33
What came as definitely the biggest shock of the year is the passing of Nipsey Hussle. Announced yesterday, he had been gunned down outside of his own store in Los Angeles. After releasing one of the stronger projects of 2018 with Victory Lap, it’s an understatement to say that we lost this Grammy nominated artist too soon. Best wishes goes out to his family and fans.
Until next time, it’s On Wax.
