ScHoolboy Q’s CrasH Talk
Dyllan:
It’s been nearly three years since the release of his Blank Face LP, and fans of Q were more than hungry for this new one to say the least. The album itself is a fair body off work. There are definitely tracks that hold you in and you can enjoy from the first listen, however, you can’t help but feel as if something is missing. Although, Q does have everything lined up perfectly— ripe beats, ripe production, and there’s an element that makes this all brew well together. Perhaps Q is on a path where he will soon have that perfect album, but until then, this is definitely an enjoyable project. One thing I will say is that 21 Savage and Lil Baby absolutely kill their verses. While I do love the tracks the two appear on, “Attention” may be the closest to that complete vibe spoken of. If you love ScHoolboy Q, then you’ll probably melt all over this new album.
Hiram:
ScHoolboy Q has finally released his long-awaited fifth studio album, Crash Talk. The album is cut into three acts, although, sonically the project is rather consistent. Q ops for mostly modern trap beats where he even features trap artists, such as 21 Savage and Lil Baby, alongside other heavy hitters, like Travis Scott, Kid Cudi and YG. While ScHoolboy Q manages to continue his lyrical dominance as one of the best modern rappers, his opt for a less conceptual album is rather underwhelming. Nonetheless, there are plenty of standout moments, such as “Tales,” “Die Wit Em,” “Attention,” and the single, “Numb Numb Juice.” There’s no denying that ScHoolboy Q is a threat and will continue to have staying power in the rap game.

OFFSET DROPS “CLOUT” MUSIC VIDEO WITH CARDI B
Coming off the release of Father of 4, Offset dropped a video for his track with wife, Cardi B. The video is not anything too crazy, but keeps you in long enough to get a second feel for the track if you did not listen to the album the first time around. The production looks good, and the pair look more united than ever.
SPOTLIGHT ON: YUNG DOUGH
We are in a special age where we are able to watch new artists emerge. This week’s spotlight for On Wax, we’ve chosen to follow the DMV’s Yung Dough as he releases his Yung 3 tape. With nine tracks, this artist has come to deliver quality over quantity. One thing that can be said about this upcoming artist is his energy, rapping with an infectious smile that makes you respect his hustle.
Until next time, it’s On Wax.
