On Wax: TDE Takeover + More
ON WAX IS A WEEKLY TAKE UPDATING YOU ON THE POCKET OF CULTURE KNOWN AS HIP-HOP. WE BRING YOU EVERYTHING FROM BREAKING NEWS TO ALBUM DROPS, JAIL TIME AND WHO’S BEEFING WITH WHO.
ScHoolboy Q Returns
The always amazing ScHoolboy Q has finally unleashed new music. “Numb Numb Juice” is what we expect to be the first single off of Q’s upcoming fifth album. The single is short, but far from sweet as Q rips through with cold bars and intense flows. The modern trap production is also quality enough to get your head moving. Hopefully it’s enough to keep fans satisfied, as they wait for this next album. Q was supposed to drop his album last year, however, he pushed it back following the death of his dear friend, the ever loved Mac Miller. The video for the song can be scene below, alongside a Tyler, The Creator cameo.
Zacari Makes His Debut
More from the TDE camp, up-and-coming R&B artist Zacari releases his first project, Run Wild Run Free. The album is a mix of infectious ‘80s R&B, alongside modern trap aesthetics. The EP is smooth enough to keep you in a feel-good mood, or if you’re with someone of your liking, maybe a sensual mood. The lone feature comes from the likes of Lil Yacthy, who comes through with an autotuned sound more reminiscent of his cloud rap beginnings. The production comes from Teddy Walton, most famous for Kendrick Lamar’s “LOVE,” which also features Zacari. While the R&B space is filled with male R&B crooners, Zacari’s more throwback style might be enough to set him apart from the rest of the pack.
Anderson .Paak Takes Zero Time Off
Anderson .Paak only dropped off his third album, Oxnard, five months ago. However, Anderson recently announced that his fifth album was coming in the next months, giving only a six month gap between the two projects. The album will be titled Ventura and the first single was delivered on Friday. “King James” sees a return to a more soulful Anderson, as the track features snappy drums, a groovy bass, and sweet horns. If Oxnard featured more rap from the Cali artist, then Ventura might be the project he reminds us he can sing better than anyone else. Regardless, the world should be excited.
Cuban Doll Drops New Track
Cuban Doll released a video to her new track, “Pussy Worth.” Explicit at its finest without any apologies, Cuban Doll steps forth pulling out all the punches on her track visually. Lyrically the track is fair, but this is definitely more of a track to enjoy optically.
Teyana Taylor Gives Us “Issues/Hold On” Visuals
Last year left us with a number of surprises— one of those happening to come from the G.O.O.D Music artist, Teyana Taylor, who recently dropped a music video for her track titled “Issues/Hold On.” The video features rappers A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator doing their thing and dressed up as comfortable as ever. What this places on us is the wonder of what may come from her next…
Until next time, it’s On Wax.
