ON WAX: TEKASHI’S “DUMMY BOY” LEAKS, A$AP ROCKY DROPS “SUNDRESS,” & AMINE “REEL IT IN” REMIX
ON WAX IS A WEEKLY TAKE UPDATING YOU ON THE POCKET OF CULTURE KNOWN AS HIP-HOP. WE BRING YOU EVERYTHING FROM BREAKING NEWS TO ALBUM DROPS, JAIL TIME AND WHO’S BEEFING WITH WHO.
ROCKY PRESENTS ‘”SUNDRESS”
A$AP Rocky decided November was the perfect time to drop a summertime jam. Rocky released his Tame Impala sampled track, “Sundress,” over the weekend to a puzzled audience. The track showcases Rocky further exploring his sonics, however, this territory is awkward—the A$AP leader attempts to sing versus rap. While Rocky continues to find new tracks to experiment on, his fans are waiting for him to find his sweet spot and really make great tunes again. Hopefully, Tyler can bring the best out of him, as we potentially wait for the release of WANG$AP that was teased at the end of the duos collab on “Potato Salad.”
“REEL IT IN” REMIX FEAT. GUCCI MANE
After success with the single, Aminé taps Gucci Mane for a remix of “REEL IT IN.” The track was already a wavy standout from his recent ONEPOINTFIVE project, and Gucci adds his trap royalty flair to the track. The remix is a fun return to an already fun song.
MEEK MILL DROPS ANOTHER SINGLE
After a rough year, Meek Mill is looking to turn things around. The Philly artist is gearing up to release his new album titled Championships next week. Ahead of the release, he delivered a single titled “Oodles O’ Noodles Babies;” the track is an introspective look at the hood and what comes of it with the kids who grow up within it. The beat is smooth and a reminiscent of good `80s jams that the popular instant noodle came from. While this track is conscious, Meek also delivered a banger with his other single titled “Uptown Vibes;” the track features Fabolous and Anuel AA. The album is due out November 30th.
“DUMMY BOY” LEAKS
Being one of hip-hop’s most controversial figures, it seems it’s hard to escape the name Tekashi 6ix9ine. After being arrested on charges of racketeering, Tekashi can’t catch a break with his album being leaked after being postponed. With features from Lil Baby, Tory Lanez, Gunna, Kanye West and more, Tekashi gears up with 13 tracks to prove why he is the king of New York. If you have heard the album…would you agree?
SPOTLIGHT ON: EAUSORA
On Tuesday, the DC native released his project titled S.O.A.P—a project that combines older sounds of hip-hop, but with a different spin. Each track goes harder than the last, demonstrating his potential in versatility. In the ever-growing state of hip-hop, you never know just who might be up next.
