The Soulful Fashion Killa: Erykah Badu
In the ’90s, Ms. Badu was into headwraps heavy. She wore them often, on and off stage. She’d match them with her outfit of choice, making them the perfect accessory to complete her look. Nowadays, she’s unpredictable with her headwear, although it’s not uncommon to catch her in an extremely tall top hat. At this year’s BET Soul Train Awards, she walked the red carpet in a hat white topped with a gold geometrical structure which I’m sure has a deep ass meaning behind it, in true Badu fashion.
Tribal Jewelry Guru:
Ms. Badu slays the jewelry game. She wears dramatic, eye-popping jewelry that will have you questioning your jewelry. She often flaunts traditional tribal accessories, including stones, medallions, and crystals from all over the world. In a recent interview with Complex, when asked about her jewelry of choice, she explained that she was wearing a necklace that she bought in Ethiopia.
Last, but not least, her hair. Over the years, we’ve seen Erykah rock several bizarre hairstyles. Huge afros, a shaved head, and even a play on the late Rick James signature hairstyle. She’s taken almost every hair risk that you can think of, and wears each style with confidence.
