The Drop – Aminé, Calvin Harris, & Bastille
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Aminé – “TOGETHER”
Aminé continues to impress me with his style of hip-hop. There is always a new texture to his beats that elevate his effortless flows. He blends his rapping and singing into one, which I am discovering more and more is my favorite kind of hip-hop. “TOGETHER” is the exact example of that as he tells his story of how he and his love are better together. “TOGETHER” is the final track to his new album, ONEPOINTFIVE.
Marshmello & Bastille – “Happier” (Pick Of The Week)
Anything Bastille releases becomes an automatic favorite of mine, but with the addition of a Marshmello symphony, this song makes me completely elated. A majestic horn line is so complimenting to lead singer Dan Smith’s booming vocals. The combination of these artists makes for my pick of the week.
SYML – “Girl”
My very close second pick of the week comes in a completely different form, but still just as harmonious. “Girl” by SYML is simplicity at its finest. From the falsetto vocals to the gliding strums and the acoustic guitar, I am indefinitely smitten over this track.
Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, & Jessie Reyez – “Promises”
Calvin Harris has brought another dance anthem to my playlist. I am still enjoying the success from his last single, “One Kiss,” featuring Dua Lipa. He has now released his latest project featuring the timeless vocals from Sam Smith. “Promises” is a sweet groove that sets the tone for a Friday night out.
Boombox Cartel – “People I Know”
“People I know” is a total plot twist of sound that I was not expecting from heavy hitters Boombox Cartel, but I am absolutely in favor of having it on repeat. Creating an ’80s dance concoction with vocals from Panama, I seriously cannot get enough of this track. It is the exact ending I needed to round out the summertime season of new releases.
The 1975 – “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME”
I am unsure of the direction that The 1975 are heading with their new releases, however, I am sure that I am loving each one of them. Taking on another new realm of sound, the band taps into a tropical pop-fusion for their latest release, “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME.” Also, The 1975 are gearing up for the release of a new album sometime this year.
SG Lewis & AlunaGeorge – “Hurting”
This is another track that was in the running for pick of the week. SG Lewis and AlunaGeorge combine forces for a top of the line house music beat. “Hurting” is one of my new favorite dance anthems that is an absolute vibe.
