THE DROP – Ari Lennox, SG Lewis, & Anderson .Paak
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber – “I Don’t Care”
I can’t help it— I just love every second of Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s new song, “I Don’t Care.” It is beyond catchy, as the two crooners serenade listeners from beginning to end. A total summer bop that will absolutely be on repeat.
SG Lewis & Ruel – “Flames”
SG Lewis has become one of my favorite producers over the last couple of years, and with every new track, he keeps getting better. “Flames” is a dark mood that has us riding on a euphoric wave of synths, and features Australian artist, Ruel. Coming off of the live premiere of this song at SG’s 2019 Coachella performance, “Flames” also comes off of his project, Dawn, that is the final portion to his three-part album series titled Dusk, Dark, and Dawn.
Ari Lennox – “BMO”
Ari Lennox has released her awaited debut album, Shea Butter Baby, and it is the neo-soul dream we have all been craving. The album is intimate and vulnerable, and has features from artists like J. Cole and J.I.D. Every song brings in a new mood, and collectively the whole album is the perfect vibe.
Whethan & Jeremih – “Let Me Take You”
This is a new taste of what is to come from producer Whethan, and is showcasing the endless amount of lanes that his music can head down. “Let Me Take You” gives off that ‘90s house music feel that is impossible to not dance along to, and R&B singer Jeremih delivers the perfect vocal for the club-ready song. The beat has a deep bass pulse, and is definitely up there as one of my favorite releases from Whethan to date.
James Bay – “Bad”
James Bay surprised fans with his new EP, Oh My Messy Mind, which features three new songs, along with his recent release, “Peer Pressure,” featuring Julia Michaels. Bay bears his soul over the course of the four tracks, but “Bad” comes out as my favored choice from his new releases. His sound is one I will never get tired of, and his poetic lyrics are forever captivating.
Gorgon City, Kaskade, & ROMÉO – “Go Slow”
Gorgon City and Kaskade blend their sounds effortlessly on their new release, “Go Slow.” These producer powerhouses have made their mark in dance music over some time now, and they continue to make music worth leaving on repeat— which “Go Slow” is exactly that. Kaskade’s melodic tendencies and Gorgon’s funky renditions over the drop are perfectly combined to make my favorite release of the week.
Flying Lotus & Anderson .Paak – “More”
Flying Lotus and Anderson .Paak deliver a groovy single with “More.” The single has been teased for some time now, but was absolutely worth the wait. It stays true to both artists’ strong points, making it sound like a fine-tuned classic from the pair.
FISHER – “You Little Beauty”
Fisher is back with his first single of 2019, and since his hit, “Losing It,” that can still be found in every DJ set just about everywhere. “You Little Beauty” is the ideal follow-up to his hit track, and captures everything that is cool and vibey about house music. This is another track that you just can’t help but tap along to.
