The Drop – Ariana Grande, Khalid, & The Chainsmokers
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Ariana Grande – thank u, next
Just in case you haven’t heard Ariana Grande has dropped another new album… Thank u, next has taken the charts by storm, and “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” is yet another anthem that I cannot seem to get out of my head. Ariana Grande has found herself on every headline in the past few years from her music, to tragedy, to relationships—there was barely a day where we weren’t reading something new about the songstress. Now, we have the album that is tying all of those headlines into one. Sweetener was just the first course compared to what thank u, next is serving us. This is definitely the year of Ariana.
The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds of Summer – “Who Do You Love”
The Chainsmokers are becoming masters in crossing over genres, and their recent collab taps on 5 Seconds of Summer on their new single, “Who Do You Love.” The song brings symphony sounds and melodic vocals from the boy band to create my favorite release of the week. The band 5SOS is still thriving from the success of their recent album, and now is setting out on tour. Also, just announced today, The Chainsmokers, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Lennon Stella will be embarking on a North American tour starting this fall.
Quinn XCII & Elohim – “Holding Hands”
Quinn XCII’s new song, “Holding Hands,” is the leading song off of his upcoming album, From Michigan With Love. It features electropop artist, Elohim, and with her eclectic sounds, the track is extremely dreamy and heartfelt. From Michigan With Love is set to be released this Friday.
Khalid & Disclosure – “Talk”
I have been waiting for a Disclosure production on a Khalid track since I first heard his voice. This collab just made so much sense to me, and now finally having it has made the wait worthwhile. The simple groove of this song matched with the crooner vocals from Khalid has me loving every second of this release.
RL Grime & Graves – “Arcus”
Everything RL Grime does becomes an instant favorite, and the same goes for Graves. Their styles intertwine effortlessly, and their storytelling through their orchestras on their new single, “Arcus,” is as grand as ever. This is a track that I cannot wait to see take over in a live show. In the meantime, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for even more new music from both of these artists.
