The Drop – Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan, & Calvin Harris
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Ariana Grande – “thank u, next”
This new release from Ariana Grande is becoming one of my favorite post-breakup tracks I’ve ever listened to. The pop songstress has been on a roller coaster ride as of lately, and this song is the transition into the next chapter of her life. The lyrics to “thank u, next” involves Ariana thanking every man that has impacted her life, and the graciousness and simplicity of the song makes me love her even more.
Troye Sivan – “Somebody To Love”
Troye Sivan has covered one of the most iconic songs, “Somebody To Love” by Queen, and completely made it his own. He creates a darker and more sad mood, and keeps the beat and vocals much smaller than the symphony that is in the original.
Benny Blanco & Calvin Harris – “I Found You”
Calvin Harris and Benny Blanco have teamed up on this late summertime track with Calvin hopping on the mic for the first time since his 2016 single, “My Way.” The single has the perfect groove to it, and it definitely is meant to be the track everyone is dancing and singing along to.
H.E.R. – “Carried Away”
I can talk about H.E.R. for hours and hours—she is easily one of the greatest additions to R&B music that has happened in the last couple of years. Every release makes me a bigger fan, and she continues to shine on everything she touches. “Carried Away” has a slick guitar riff attached to it, giving her vocals a swampier edge that I am totally feeling. This song is in my top pick of the releases for this week.
NOTD, Felix Jaehn, Captain Cuts – “So Close”
I love a good heartbreak song matched with an upbeat tune, which should be an oxymoron—but it works, and I love it. NOTD, Felix Jaehn, and Captain Cuts team up for their new release, “So Close,” that is a mesh between pop and tropical house; it makes a breakup seem a lot more fun.
THEY. & Jessie Reyez – “Broken”
THEY. is another artist that has become one of my favorites in the last year. Their cool tones, alongside Jessie Reyez, create this slow jam masterpiece that pulls at all the heartstrings.
SG Lewis & AlunaGeorge – “Hurting” (Pick of the Week)
SG Lewis and AluneGoerge create house magic on their new release, “Hurting.” Calm, cool, and collected is a whole vibe on this track that I am absolutely obsessing over. This duo has created one of my favorite tracks of the week hands down.
