The Drop – Banks, Blood Orange, & Of Monsters and Men
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

BANKS – III
Banks has returned, and is more bold and badass than ever. A fiery story from start to finish that introduces an older and wiser version of Banks. She still keeps in tune with her dark pop aesthetic that feels more audacious than ever. Banks chooses grimy melodies with her angelic vocals to tell her love story in a carefree and daring way. She is definitely back, and her story is worth listening to over and over again.
David Guetta & Martin Solveig – “Thing For You”
“Thing For You” is a homage to house music that is for sure a dance floor favorite. A colorful and lively track, making this collaboration one of my favorite releases of the summer.
Of Monsters and Men – “Wild Roses”
Of Monsters and Men are taking a step back from their sweet folk sounds, and diving into a more pop-driven release on “Wild Roses.” This is the second song released from their upcoming album, Fever Dream, which is set to be released on July 26th—along with a U.S. tour that begins in the fall. While the band is testing out new lanes for their music on this new album, their sound remains as charming and endearing as ever.
Ed Sheeran – No. 6 Collaborations Project
Ed Sheeran has brought in ever artist from every genre to accompany him on his No. 6 Collaborations Project. Justin Bieber, Stormzy, Skrillex, Ella Mai, H.E.R, and Travis Scott are just a few names splashed across the tracklist of his new album. While each song tells a different story with a different beat, cohesively they all work as a whole from start to finish. There is something for every listener, and with each listen, I have a new favorite that gets left on repeat.
Blood Orange – “Dark & Handsome”
Blood Orange has graced us with what has been described as an epilogue to his 2018 album, Negro Swan. Angel’s Pulse is a captivating soundscape of 14 tracks that bring together many different genres, making them one. The album feels like a lowkey listen with “Dark & Handsome” feeling like a standout to me. Featuring Toro y Moi, the song is soothing and easy to follow along to with swift beats and soft vocals. Angel’s Pulse is stylistically bold, and I am here for it.
Loud Luxury & Bryce Vine – “I’m Not Alright”
“I’m Not Alright” feels like the perfect follow-up to Loud Luxury’s hit, “Body.” Collaborating with Bryce Vine, the track is absolutely electric with its intoxicating synths and exciting riffs. This one is another summertime hit.
