The Drop – Billie Eilish, Dog Blood, & Khalid
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Billie Eilish – WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
Billie Eilish’s debut album is a bold explosion of angst and moodiness that is paving another new lane in pop music. This album has been long-anticipated from the young star, and it definitely does not disappoint. From start to finish, the album is a dark eccentric ride that I was not prepared for. She challenges the state of pop music and is making her sound heard in an extremely daring, yet vulnerable way, Billie Eilish is recreating what a pop star is with WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, and is giving us a taste that everyone should be acquiring.
Whethan, Bearson, & Soak – “Win You Over”
Whethan and Bearson are joining forces with Soak for their latest release, “Win You Over.” This track has been on constant repeat for me, and it is the epitome of easy listening for dance music. It is the perfect summertime vibe that is one wavy beat after another.
Flume & Reo Cragun – “Friends”
Another new release from Flume has me craving even more from my favorite producer. “Friends” is a much more lyrically charged release with Reo Cragun, yet it is still infused with those perfectly tuned Flume synths that I have been missing so much in dance music.
Gryffin, Slander, & Calle Lehmann – “All You Need To Know”
Two more of my favorite DJs have combined their talents to deliver a charming and grand new release. Gryffin and Slander come together on their latest track titled “All You Need To Know” with Calle Lehmann. It is an angelic collection of sounds that all together make it so warm and delicate.
Dillon Francis & lovelytheband – “Change Your Mind”
This a collab that I am obsessing over. Lovelytheband is one of my favorite voices in indie rock right now, and Dillon Francis continues to venture into new realms of dance music, making him one of the best in the game. “Change Your Mind” is a simple groove that is just so easy to love to listen to. This track easily has become my favorite release of the week.
Khalid – “Self”
A reflective and minimalistic release from Khalid has him focusing on his inner demons and completely self-reflecting on life. “Self” comes off of Khalid’s upcoming album, Free Spirit, which is set to be released this Friday— just in time for his Coachella appearance the following weekend.
Dog Blood – “Turn Off The Lights”
Dog Blood, aka Skrillex and Boys Noize, are back since their previous run in 2013. “Turn Off The Lights” is going to be bringing out everyone’s inner raver with its grimy runs and bassy rhythms; it is an absolute homage to that underground dance music sound. This song premiered over Miami Music Week at one of the biggest Brownies and Lemonade parties to date, which also coincided with their performance at Ultra Music Festival. Stay tuned for even more from Dog Blood this coming year.
