The Drop – Billie Eilish, lany, & Zedd
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Billie Eilish – “you should see me in a crown” (Pick Of The Week)
My favorite girl in the game has dropped a new song, and it is dripping with eerie synths and deep bass, making it unlike anything she has previously released. Billie Eilish is rising to the top and creating music that sits in a realm all on her own. This song is a no-brainer for me to select as my favorite pick of the week.
LANY – “Thru These Tears”
My summer would feel incomplete if there wasn’t a new breakup song from my dearest indie pop group LANY. “Thru These Tears” is all about the prospect of getting through a breakup, and getting to the better and brighter side. Anything with an ’80s pop-inspired beat and some clever lyrics, and I am absolutely sold.
Zedd & Elley Duhé – “Happy Now”
Colorful and bright are a constant way to describe the vibe of Zedd, however, it is always the lyrics that bring it home for me. “Happy Now” takes a more somber journey with vocals from Elley Duhé, but the rich and fluid beat give it the right amount of workings to make it one of my favorites.
St. Lucia – “Walking Away”
St. Lucia has just announced their upcoming third album, Hyperion, that is set to be released September 21st. Their first single, “Walking Away,” from their album brings together funk and rock for an electrically charged hype track. Along with the release of a new album, St. Lucia will be setting out on tour this September as well.
Silk City & Mapei – “Feel About You”
It is songs like this that make me fall in love with dance music all over again. “Feel About You” is this pure summertime song with disco beats and house textures that is as vibrant and beaming as ever. The Silk City duo, which is made up of Mark Ronson and Diplo, are on the cusp of releasing even more music as this is only the second track released under the pair.
The 1975 – “Love It If We Made It”
The excitement I am experiencing as The 1975 continues to release new music from their upcoming album is an insurmountable feeling. They are such a significant group to my music taste that I have such a sweet spot for their sound. “Love It If We Made It” feels like a homage to why I love their vocals, along with their effortlessness and simplicity to tell stories.
The Internet – “Look What U Started”
The Internet is coming off of their new album release, Hive Mind, and while being filled with wavy beats and R&B gold, I have found my favorite song in the likes of “Look What U Started.” It is one of the groovier tracks from their album, and it has me vibing along to each breezy note.
