Chance The Rapper – The Big Day
Chance The Rapper has officially released his first full-length album, The Big Day. While his other projects have been wildly successful, they have come in the form of mixtapes and have kept fans begging for a full project that they can call an album. Twenty-two tracks of Chance is just what I needed from hip-hop; there are endless amounts of collaborations, including Death Cab for Cutie, John Legend, Francis and the Lights, Shawn Mendes, and more. This one continues to get better with every listen, and unlike before, The Big Day has been released on all streaming platforms.
The Chainsmokers, Illenium, & Lennon Stella – “Takeaway”
This collaboration has been teased for a while in live sets and on social media, and I could not be more excited to finally hear the whole song from start to finish. The Chainsmokers and Illenium collab has been a long time coming since Illenium first remixed The Chainsmokers hit song, “Don’t Let Me Down,” and now the DJs have came together for dance music gold. With the help of indie pop artist Lennon Stella on vocals, “Takeaway” is a grand and emotional escape that brings together my favorite DJs in the most cohesively special way.
Majid Jordan & Khalid – “Caught Up”
Majid Jordan and Khalid are another collaboration that had been teased awhile back, and now the artists have released their smooth and silky single, “Caught Up.” The message is simply about the fast-paced lifestyle of a musician that is hard to not get lost in. The sultry vocals from the trio are impossible to not vibe with, and this is definitely one of my favorite collabs Khalid has been a part of.
DJ Snake – Carte Blanche
DJ Snake at this point of his career can pretty much do whatever he wants when it comes to the music he wants to make. Carte Blanche takes that mentality and turns it into an explosive and diverse dance music album that is mesmerizing from beginning to end. There is an edge to each track and this fearlessness to tackle different genres in his own creative way. DJ Snake is coming in hot with this one.
Lykke Li – “neon”
Lykke Li’s new track titled “neon” is a ballad of sorts that highlights her vocals and brings together her pop sounds over the ‘80s inspired song. “Neon” is apart of her EP, still sad still sexy, that reworks music from her previous project, so sad so sexy. “Neon” is a pop sound that I love and it is what keeps Lykee Li so interesting in the pop music world. She is rounding out her tour, but I expect to see more of her throughout the rest of this year, as well as into the new year.
Rezz – “Kiss of Death”
This one is a heavy hitter, to say the least. Rezz and Deathpact bring metallic bass to life with deep vibrations and aggressive synths to create their new single, “Kiss of Death.” Hypnotic and heavy, the release is all the qualities of Rezz’s music that listeners have come to love. The track comes from Rezz’s EP titled Beyond The Senses, and is another track to add to the complex collection that is Rezz.
Of Monsters and Men – “Wars”
Of Monsters and Men took a leap of faith on their new album by abandoning their sweet and innocent folk sound and diving headfirst into a true indie pop project on Fever Dream. It keeps in tune with their light and airy feeling listeners get while listening to their music, but feels elevated and fresh with new daring concepts and sounds. Of Monsters and Men will be setting out on tour this year, and with this new album being played alongside their old projects, I think cohesively it’ll be the best version of the group that we have heard thus far.
Boombox Cartel, Dillon Francis, & Desiigner – “Drip”
The energy on the new track from Boombox Cartel and Dillon Francis is insurmountable. An infectious beat with killer drops and trap vocals from hip-hop’s Desiigner, the track is wild and exciting.
