The Drop – Chromeo, Whethan, & Troye Sivan
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Chromeo – “One Track Mind”
Chromeo has been gearing up for the release of their new album, Head Over Heels, and it is everything I missed about this duo and more. Packed full of funk and fun, Chromeo gives us the most feel-good album for the summer. Check out “One Track Mind,” which is one of my favorite tracks from their new album.
RL Grime – “Undo”
RL Grime has finally given fans what they have all been waiting for… an album release date (Nova is to be released July 27th); and along with the release date, we also have a new single and tracklisting. “Undo” features Tory Lanez and Jeremih, which is a hip-hop infused bass track and it is an easy-going intro for whats to come from Nova.
Troye Sivan & Ariana Grande – “Dance To This”
Easily two of my favorite voices in pop have collaborated, and it is a pop gold dream. Ariana Grande and Troye Sivan have together created a euphoric setting with delicate vocals that make dancing in your kitchen with your love that much more lovely.
Whethan & Oh Wonder – “Superlove”
My favorite song on The Drop this week comes from Whethan and Oh Wonder. The sweet and cute ballads from Oh Wonder make every song of theirs perfect to me, but with the synths of Whethan make it that much better. This one is on constant repeat.
Alessia Cara – “Growing Pains”
Alessia Cara is another voice in the pop realm that I continue to fall in love with. “Growing Pains” is her first release from her upcoming project, and it reminds me of the similar mantra that her single, “Seventeen,” had. The coming-of-age lyrics make her music relatable to the younger generations, and “Growing Pains” shows the new music we can expect from her in 2018.
GoldLink & Miguel – “Got Friends”
GoldLink and Miguel together create the silky and slick mixture of rap and R&B that I cannot get enough of. Goldlink’s flow is smooth and crisp, while Miguel floats effortlessly into your ears over the chorus. The song is gritty and sultry all in the same lyric.
Loote & Joe Jonas – “Longer Than I Thought”
Loote is the perfect elixir of indie pop. Their electro upbeat sounds and sweet memorable lyrics come full circle on their recent EP release, single. Joe Jonas accompanies them on the standout track for me, “Longer Than I Thought,” and it is the ultimate summer pop song.
Death Cab for Cutie – “Gold Rush”
Death Cab for Cutie gives me so much nostalgia every time I listen to them. Their music is timeless and simple, and I never get tired of their sound. “Gold Rush” is one of the first releases from their upcoming album, Thank You for Today.
Yellow Claw – “Waiting”
Yellow Claw releases quite a range of music that I’m never sure if I’m about to get the headbanging side or the softer side from the DJ duo. “Waiting” is the absolute medium of the two sides with heartfelt vocals that transition into a big and trumpet filled drop that leaves me dancing along to every note of it.
Martin Garrix & Khalid – “Ocean”
Martin Garrix is another DJ that always releases new music with a little element of surprise. He dips into many different genres and styles when it comes to the music he produces, so a new release from him is always exciting. Then when you add the new music sensation Khalid, it automatically becomes a favorite for me. “Ocean” featuring Khalid gives a soulful ballad over the slow churning sounds that Garrix lays down. It is deep and brooding, but so pure.
