The Drop – Flume, The Lumineers, & Haim
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Ariana Grande & Social House – “boyfriend”
Relationships can often be complicated and hard to navigate, especially when you are as famous as Ariana Grande. In her new single, “boyfriend” featuring Social House, she serenades us through the prospect of complicated relationships. The sultry track brings out the R&B side of Grande that we saw a lot of on thank u, next. Grande premiered the song at her recent headlining performance at Lollapalooza alongside Social House.
Gryffin & Carly Rae Jepsen – “OMG”
Carly Rae Jepsen knows how to create a catchy tune that has to be left on repeat. Matching that with Gryffin’s infectious sound, the combination of the two brought us “OMG;” a track all about falling in love in the most colorful and uplifting way. This single feels like a never ending summer love.
HAIM – “Summer Girl”
The Haim sisters are back with their first release since their 2017 album, Something to Tell You. “Summer Girl” is a jazzy tune that is soft and sweet all the way through. It is a light and easy single from the normal guitar and indie heavy music from Haim with a saxophone backing and simple lyrics—I’m here jiving along to the cheery track from the sisters.
Oliver Tree & Whethan – “Do You Feel Me?”
Oliver Tree and Whethan teamup again for their funky new single, “Do You Feel Me?” This one is electronic gold and brings out a more mellow vibe from Tree, yet a grimier sound from Whethan. “Do You Feel Me?” is turning into an absolute banger after each listen.
Flume & Reo Cragun – “Quits”
Flume really is giving us new tracks left and right, and I am absolutely here for it. His new release with Reo Cragun feels like a true glimpse into more music Flume will be releasing this year. The new music comes from his EP, Quits, that features three fresh tracks with Cragun featured on all of them. This track taps into another range of Flume’s sound book and has me so excited for everything to come from my favorite producer this year.
Noah Cyrus – “July”
This is easily in my top favorite releases of the week. Noah Cyrus explores the aftermath of a toxic relationship on her new single, “July,” with an acoustic guitar and airy vocals. The song is simple, but with an intense message and pure sounds from Noah. “July” is heartbreaking and beauitful in every way.
ILLENIUM & Foy Vance – “Blood”
“Blood” is the final single coming off of Illenium’s upcoming album, Ascend. This track is a definitive reason why fans are beyond excited for this new era of Illenium. It is powerful and magnetic with big bassy drops paired with Foy Vance’s gritty and powerhouse vocals. “Blood” is the perfect follow-up from his recent pop influenced release with The Chainsmokers and Lennon Stella. The album is out soon, and I am counting down the days until then.
The Lumineers – “It Wasn’t Easy To Be Happy For You”
The Lumineers’ new track is heartbreaking, yet still has all the sweetness that comes from their music. “It Wasn’t Easy To Be Happy For You” is a self-explanatory title that comes off of their second EP, Junior Sparks, that is part of a three-part story that will equal a full album. If you love The Lumineers, then you will love listening to this new track.
