The Drop – Halsey, The Lumineers, & Flux Pavillion
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Halsey – “Graveyard”
Halsey surprised fans with the announcement of her upcoming album, Manic, along with the release of its first single, “Graveyard.” Halsey has already begun discussing the nuances of her new album, and while the sounds from it are “manic,” the overall message is calm and accepting. “Graveyard” feels like the prologue to her hit song, “Without Me,” as it talks all about ignoring the warning signs from a poor relationship. Halsey’s album is set to release in 2020.
The Lumineers – “Salt And The Sea”
On their new album, The Lumineers have decided to tackle ones of life’s most vulnerable subjects: addiction. Throughout their album, III, each song expresses a different side and story in which addiction has affected someone. This album tells the story of addiction in three parts, and is eloquently heartbreaking from start to finish. Their sound is perfectly tuned, and their vocals are as pristine as ever. It definitely is a risky piece of work, but it’s absolutely some of their best yet.
Flux Pavilion, What So Not & The Chain Gang of 1974 – “20:25”
This new track from Flux Pavillion, What So Not, and The Chain Gang of 1974 is just undeniably cool. This one deserves to be blasted on a road trip down the coast, or during a sunset at your favorite festival. I just cannot get enough of this one—it is certainly my best-loved track from this week.
Charli XCX and Lizzo – “Blame It On Your Love”
Charli XCX has released her self-titled album, Charli, and “Blame It On Your Love” featuring Lizzo is an automatic standout for me. Maybe it is the Lizzo feature, or maybe it is the true pop essence of it. Either way, there is something so catchy about it, making it a hard one to ignore. Feeling like her hit “Boom Clap,” this track is everything I love about Charli XCX.
Lil Nas X & DaBaby – “Panini” (Remix)
This remix really isn’t straying too far from the original, but there is just enough that makes me put “Panini” on repeat all over again. DaBaby hops on with Lil Nas X to give us just a little more flare to the already hit track. Also, an all-new animated music video has been released.
