The Drop – Khalid, Skrillex, & Billie Eilish
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Khalid – Suncity
Khalid has had one of the biggest years in R&B music. He captured the hearts of people everywhere, and has found himself collaborating with some of the top artists in the game. His new seven-track project is an even more vulnerable side to the Khalid we saw on American Teen. Shedding the teenage exterior, Suncity slows it down and creates an experience that has made me love Khalid even more. This new side of him makes me excited for the path that his new music is about to take.
Skrillex & JOYRYDE – “AGEN WIDA”
This 2019 is about to be the return of Skrillex to the big stage. He is returning to the festival circuit and popping up with new music, which has me beyond excited for what is to come. “AGEN WIDA,” featuring JOYRYDE, is the heaviest elixir of wubs and Skrillex goodness. If this is just the first taste of a new era of Skrillex, I am itching to hear what is next.
Billie Eilish – “when the party’s over”
Billie Eilish continues to be one of the most unique artists that has had a huge year in music. The young artist has created an entire lane of her own, and every release taps into a new genre that we haven’t heard from her before. “When the party’s over” is an emotionally raw story that ages Billie far beyond her years.
Post Malone & Swae Lee – “Sunflower”
Post Malone is still riding the wave from his new album, “Beerbongs and Bentleys,” which is my favorite hip-hop album of 2018, and now has collaborated with Swae Lee for the lead single off of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. “Sunflower” has a catchy melody and quotable lyrics from Post and Swae that is making it another hit to add to Post Malone’s tracklist.
MØ – “I Want You”
MØ releasing her new album, Forever Neverland, is exactly the indie pop album I have been wanting. It is full of electro synths and pop-heavy beats, which make every song my new favorite. “I Want You” is the perfect dance anthem on the album though; it is so groovy and loveable, and showcases everything I love about the powerhouse vocals from MØ. This one is an absolute bop.
Party Favor & Bipolar Sunshine – “Circle Up”
Party Favor is entering a new chapter of music, and I am here for it. Party Favor is on the rise as an artist and is about to have one of the biggest years, I believe, in dance music. His latest single features Bipolar Sunshine, and where moombahton meets Party Favors trap roots is where we find “Circle Up.” This one is a party from start to finish, and I am fully prepared to dance along to it.
The 1975 – “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)”
I am beyond prepared for the release of The 1975’s album, and every new release from it has me ecstatic to hear the whole thing from start to finish. “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” is another indie alternative track that is candy-coated in 1975 guitar riffs and heartfelt lyrics. This album is one of my most anticipated of the year by far.
Gammer – “Out With The Old”
Gammer has already had one of the biggest songs in dance music this year with “The Drop,” and is ready to go even further with “Out With The Old.” Gammer comes from DJ Snake’s label, Premiere Classe, and is taking dance music by storm with his enormous releases. “Out With The Old” is packed with seamless transitions and heavy bass drops; this track is an absolute monster.
