The Drop – Mumford & Sons, Anderson .Paak, & Hozier
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Mumford & Sons – Delta
Mumford & Sons latest album combines every sound that the band has produced over their last albums, and brings back their folk roots that I fell in love with so long ago. An ambitious and heartfelt album is developed over the 14 tracks with standout songs being previously released: singles “Guiding Light” and “If I say,” along with “Woman” and “Picture You.” The album is a full circle moment for me as my favorite band comes back with another sincerely raw moment from the band.
The Chainsmokers – “Beach House”
The successful DJ duo is on track to having another huge year in music with another new release. “Beach House” taps back into the synths heard previously on tracks, “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down,” which have now become a signature for The Chainsmokers. The single features vocals from Drew Taggart that creates a simple and easy listening vibe from the duo.
Anderson .Paak – Oxnard
Anderson .Paak is unlike any other artist I am listening to. His vivid and lively approach to hip-hop has intrigued me since first listening to him, and his latest album, Oxnard, continues to push the boundaries on his own music. The album keeps in tune with his funky beats and playful banter over the 14 songs, and has me loving it more with every listen.
Lennon Stella – “La Di Da”
Lennon Stella becomes even more of a favorite artist for me with every new release. Her indie style with a country pop twang puts her in a realm of her own, especially for a new artist. “La Di Da” is a dreampop fantasy that comes off of her new EP titled Love, Me. Since her days on the TV show Nashville, she has discovered her own sound, and should definitely be on everyone’s radar as a new young artist on the rise.
Party Favor & Naïka – “Blame”
This is about to be the year of Party Favor. His ambitious releases and exploration of new sounds are pushing him to new heights in dance music, and he is just getting started. The song features Naïka on vocals, as Party Favor dives in on the beat to create a drum heavy single that is “Blame.”
Hozier – “Movement”
“Movement” is the lead single off of the new era and upcoming album from Hozier. A stormy intro leads us into the cinematic chorus from the “Take Me to Church” singer that reminds me how powerful the vocals really are from Hozier. His new album is set to be released in early 2019, and hopefully with more singles leading up to it.
Manila Killa & Mansionair – “Wake Up Call”
Manila Killa’s new release is as easy as easy listening goes, and is a vibe I could get used to in electronic music. The simplicity from the beat elevates the lyrics, and vocals form Mansionair that makes the song cool and smooth to listen to.
