The Drop – Nicki Minaj, Rüfüs Du Sol, & Louis The Child
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Nicki Minaj – “Barbie Dream”
I am always in favor of a good diss track. Even though Nicki has said it is not a direct diss track and she is on fine terms with everyone mentioned in the song, she shows no mercy on her flow for the numerous amounts of artists she clowns on. Not only does she have no shame in her game, she also shows her effortless talent as a rapper towards the end of the track. This one deserves a whole listen. Nicki Minaj’s latest album, Queen, is now available everywhere.
Louis The Child & MAX – “Dear Sense” (Pick Of The Week)
Louis The Child is having themselves quite the year. From festival to festival to now setting out on yet another tour, they are the rising force in dance music that I cannot seem to draw myself away from. I first heard “Dear Sense” during their recent headlining set at HARD Summer, and I loved it then and I love it now. It takes on a funky enigma that is a dance party starter. MAX tackles the vocals, and brings a youthful and fun essence to make the song my favorite drop of the week.
Dermot Kennedy – “Heartless”
One of the coolest covers I have heard comes from Dermot Kennedy. Kanye West’s “Heartless” is reconfigured to take on an even moodier texture than the original already has. Dermot Kennedy turns the song into this tragically heartfelt cinematic experience.
Sam Feldt & SYML – “Where’s My Love”
A Sam Feldt mix is always a favorite for me. He jam packs “Where’s My Love” with upbeat horn sections and electric house riffs that continuously make his music feel like confetti and sunshine.
India Lake – “Girl in New York City”
India Lake is a new artist that I found that has the type of indie rock/pop vibe that I always gravitate to. “Girl in New York City” is an emotional soundscape of exactly what it is like to be alone in a big city and the journey along with it. Her voice is completely captivating, and is a new artist that I will definitely be watching.
“Rüfüs Du Sol” – “Underwater”
Rüfüs is a vibe all on its own. There is not a musical journey quite like the one you are taken on while listening to Rüfüs Du Sol. “Underwater” is this heavy elixir of dark and twisted beats that leave an eerie, yet inviting feeling for listeners to dive into. Their album, Solace, is set for release this fall.
