The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.

For The Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game Of Thrones)
Game of Thrones is already one of the most talked about television shows, so it only makes sense to talk about the album inspired by the show itself. For The Throne is a powerhouse of talent with songs from Mumford & Sons, SZA, Ellie Goulding, The National, A$AP Rocky, and so many more. Each track is inspired by concepts from the show that are becoming the perfect addition to the already phenomenal series.
BANKS – “Gimme”
Banks is back, and thank goodness for that. Her new single, “Gimme,” is the first taste of what is to come from her in 2019— and it’s absolute fire. Electronic synths and moody bass, keeping the song as intriguing as ever. Banks can do no wrong, and with just one single, she has me begging for the album already.
The Chainsmokers, Ty Dolla $ign, and bülow – “Do You Mean”
The Chainsmokers have perfected taking a step back from their dance heavy tracks, and instead, releasing singles that focus more on the lyrics of their music. “Do You Mean” even showcases the softer side of Ty Dolla $ign, along with vocals from bülow and Drew Taggart. The new track is very melodic and has me singing along to every lyric.
LANY & Julia Michaels – “okay”
LANY and Julia Michaels are getting through heartbreak together on their new song, “okay.” Julia Michaels and LANY have become some of my favorite writers in pop music, and this track fully showcases their way with words. The emotional lyrics accompanied with a bouncy beat makes for my favorite juxtaposition in pop music— and this is a collaboration that I could really get used to.
Diplo & Cam – “So Long”
The dance/country crossover has been growing in the last year from Maren Morris on Zedd and Grey’s “The Middle,” to Kelsea Ballerini on The Chainsmokers’ “This Feeling.” Country music is making its way into every chart, and Diplo is the next dance music artist to make his way into country with his recent performance at the Stagecoach Festival— along with his recent release with country music’s Cam under his new alias, Thomas Wesley; which is also Diplo’s real name. “So Long” is country with a little bit more flare that has me dancing along to every second of it.
The Black Keys – “Eagle Birds”
The Black Keys debuted another new single from their upcoming album, Let’s Rock. “Eagle Birds” is upbeat and full of rock flavors with its ruffled guitar riffs and rugged vocals. Their new album is set to be released June 28th, and will be followed by a North American Tour starting in September.
Party Favor – Layers
Party Favors debut album titled Layers is the ideal crossover between dance and hip-hop. It is an absolute explosion from start to finish. There are an endless amount of collabs from hip-hop artists, like A$AP Ferg, Juicy J, and Rich The Kid, along with collabs from dance music artists, like GTA, Graves, and Salvatore Ganacci. He does not miss a beat whether it is a trap song, like “Work It Out,” or a super house beat, like “Wasabi” — Party Favor came to play. This album absolutely solidifies Party Favor’s place in dance music, and I’m telling you, he is just getting started.
