The Drop – Post Malone, Zhu, & Francis and the Lights
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Post Malone – Hollywood’s Bleeding
Post Malone’s new album is a more mature and a more elevated era from the rapper than his previous releases. Hollywood’s Bleeding has every ounce of rock influence on it, including a collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne. Post has always found his own bridge between hip-hop and rock music, and it definitely shines throughout this album in a unique and fresh way. Hollywood’s Bleeding is an exceptional follow-up to beerbongs and bentleys, which already dominated 2018, as well as solidified Post Malone’s force in music.
The Bloody Beetroots & ZHU – “Zoning”
This is a collaboration that is a whole dark mood from start to finish. The Bloody Beetroots come in grimey and grungy, while ZHU enters with his enticing falsetto and edgy synths. “Zoning” has a magnetic pulse that you just cannot escape from.
Francis and the Lights, Bon Iver, & Kanye West – “Take Me to the Light”
This song is an overall experience. The combination of these three artists is automatic magic, and “Take Me to the Light” is a testament to that. It is a pop synthetic dream, and my favorite release of the week. This track is just a must hear.
Foster The People – “Pick U Up”
Foster The People’s latest single is a cheeky little track that keeps it lighthearted and fun when it comes to a new love interest. The indie rock band stays in tune with their recognizable sound, while still adding some extra bounce and playfulness on “Pick U Up.”
Oh Wonder – “Hallelujah”
It has been a long two-year wait for a new single from Oh Wonder, but thankfully, they have now given us “Hallelujah.” This song really embodies Oh Wonder, as well as what I love about their sweet sounds and enriched lyrics. This is a step towards more releases from the duo in the next year since their 2017 album, Ultralife, which gives me high hopes for what’s to come from them in 2020.
Wafia, Louis The Child, & Whethan – “Hurts”
What Whethan has referred to as a “homie track” is the latest from Wafia, Louis The Child, and Whethan. Their new track is really friends making music together, and talking about how friends are there to pick up the pieces after a breakup. “Hurts” has a wavy synth with sweet vocal textures from Wafia, making another track from these artists lovable and catchy.
John Mayer – “Carry Me Away”
John Mayer has planned to release a new album in 2020, but as of recent years has had more interest in releasing singles as he writes/creates them. “Carry Me Away” is an easy listening tune where Mayer serenades his way through his simple guitar strums, while taking listeners on a stroll with him.
