The Drop – Silk City, Majid Jordan, & Hozier
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Silk City & Dua Lipa – “Electricity” (Pick of the Week)
I have been impatiently awaiting the release of this new song from Silk City and Dua Lipa since its announcement. Silk City is the newest collaboration project with Mark Ronson and Diplo who have been releasing fire tracks over the past months. Compared to all of their other releases, their latest is my favorite and my pick of the week. Dua Lipa has become an unstoppable force, from her own music to her collaboration tracklistings, over the last couple of years, and there is no stopping her now. “Electricity” is groovy and fun, and will be on repeat for a while.
Majid Jordan – “All Over You”
Majid Jordan is on a whole new wave with their latest release, “All Over You.” It is part of their dual single release, which includes their other single, “Spirit.” “All Over You” is crisp on the vocals and has an airy electro beat that is an easy track to vibe along to.
ZHU – “Stormy Love, NM”
Zhu’s latest album, RINGOS DESERT, is an enigma of moody house music. Where house music meets an old Western is where ZHU and his new sound are found. “Stormy Love” is a brooding intro into the world of RINGOS DESERT that ZHU has created. The album itself is a worthy dance music listen, and “Stormy Love” introduces it all.
Noah Cyrus & Gallant – “Mad At You”
Noah Cyrus and Gallant combine their powerhouse vocals to create the incredible ballad that is “Mad At You.” Their vocals absolutely soar through the piano acoustics and choir. The song is a vulnerable cry, and another one of my favorites from this week.
Hozier – “Shrike”
What seemed like a never-ending wait for new music, Hozier has finally blessed us with four new tracks off of his EP, Nina Cried Power. Four years felt like an eternity waiting for music from one of my favorite singer-songwriters. “Shrike” is the final ballad on his latest release, and it captured my heart instantly. There’s a quiet guitar and an intimate violin, which make the vocals of Hozier even better. His voice is truly something I have been missing in music, and I am excited to see what future releases are to come from him, as an album has been announced to come out sometime soon.
Russ – “Missin You Crazy”
Russ has just released his newest album, Zoo, and his contemporary rap persona carries through the 14-track album with ease. “Missin You Crazy” is a creative lyrical track that has become my favorite from the album. The words could compare to a lost love (or a lost loved one in general), and hits all of the feels. This is one I cannot seem to get tired of anytime soon.
MØ – “Way Down”
MØ is always an interesting artist to listen to. Her latest single, “Way Down,” strays away from her pop stigma, and takes her unique vocals to a new level that is accompanied by a funky beat.
