THE DROP – SNOH AALEGRA, THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, & ILLENIUM
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

The Neighbourhood – “Middle Of Somewhere”
The Neighbourhood’s latest release, “Middle Of Somewhere,” inhabits some psychedelic guitar riffs that are attached to very calm and wavy vocals. This begins to feel like an updated version of their 2012 selves— and I love it. It is simple and intriguing, and “Middle Of Somewhere” is a sound I can get behind. The Neighbourhood kicks off their Middle Of Somewhere Tour on October 11th.
Taylor Swift – “Lover”
What sounds like a wonderful fairy tale is actually the reality of Taylor Swift’s current relationship, and her new song finally lets us in to the new era of her. Her new single, “Lover” and title track from her upcoming album, is sweet and gentle and is having me just absolutely gush over everything that I find lovely about her as an artist. This new track of Taylor’s is a dreamy escape of what being in love truly feels like. Her new album titled Lover is available this Friday.
Big Gigantic & Ashe – “Friends”
Big Gigantic is giving us a bright saxophone drop and a party wave of sounds on their new single, “Friends” featuring Ashe. Ashe’s indie pop vocals complement the tropical tendencies from the track and bring the groovy beats to a new level.
Anna Of The North – “Playing Games”
Anna Of The North is prepping for the release of her upcoming sophomore album— and her latest single, “Playing Games,” has me more hyped than ever. “Playing Games” is a playful track about having the upper hand in a relationship. It is splashed with ‘80s inspired synths that make it all the more catchy. Stay tuned for more from Anna Of The North as her album drops this fall.
Whethan, The Knocks & Crystal Fighters – “Summer Luv”
Summer ain’t over just yet— there is just enough time for one more summer bop. “Summer Luv” brings the eclectic sounds from Whethan, alongside The Knocks and Crystal Fighters, and delivers an indie electronic summer tune that is absolutely my favorite release of the week. The beat is undeniably catchy, and it is making the end of the summer a little more bearable.
Normani – “Motivation”
Normani is coming in hot with her debut single, “Motivation,” and between the pop perfection of the song and the fiery music video, I am raving about this track. “Motivation” is bouncy and fun; it captures everything I love about a pop/R&B crossover. It really is the perfect intro into her solo career, and it is capturing everyone’s attention.
Snoh Aalegra – “I Didn’t Mean to Fall in Love”
Snoh Aalegra is returning with a hopeful spirit on her new album, Ugh, Those Feels Again. The album picks up where her debut album, FEELS, left off and delivers the same croons—but with a polished and uplifting finish. Snoh still continues to find her way through the journey of love, heartbreak, and finding love again, but on this album her words are bolder and brighter. Ugh, Those Feels Again is another piece of art that identifies Snoh Aalegra as one of my absolute favorites in R&B right now.
ILLENIUM – ASCEND
Illenium’s latest and greatest has 17-tracks of emotional and transcending works of dance music. He dances along the line of heartwarming and heartbreaking with every other track, and with every listen, his new album, ASCEND, is his most daring work yet. Illenium has become masterful at turning emotions into sounds, and on every track I am hit with something new and innovative. This album takes Illenium to new heights and adds another project to his portfolio of perfection.
