The Drop – The Black Keys, CHVRCHES, & Party Favor
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.

Marshmello & CHVRCHES – “Here With Me”
Marshmello is granting us with yet another cross-genre collaboration with indie-pop group, CHVRCHES. The lyrically charged dance track has lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s unique vocals soaring over the candy coated Marshmello beat. This is the first major crossover for CHVRCHES into dance music, and after hearing “Here With Me,” I don’t think it will be their last.
The Black Keys – “Lo/Hi”
It has been five years since we have had any new releases from The Black Keys, but with their new single, “Lo/Hi,” it really seems like they are picking back up right where they left off. Rugged guitar riffs, grungy vocals, and an even better guitar solo, The Blacks Keys are about to pave their way yet again in 2019. This is by far my favorite release of the week, and the most exciting release of 2019 so far.
Juice WRLD – “Make Believe”
Juice WRLD’s sophomore album, Death Race For Love, is already headed to the top of the charts since its release. The 22-track project has something for everyone, and with each listen, I’m discovering a new favorite song. Juice WRLD is making a name for himself, and with this new album, I think we are going to be seeing even bigger moves from him the rest of this year.
Boombox Cartel – “Nothing to Hide”
Boombox Cartel’s new release, “Nothing to Hide,” is a future bass adventure. The dreamy synths take listeners on a cinematic adventure, and vocals from Karra take the experience even further.
Gesaffelstein & HAIM – “So Bad”
Hyperion is everything I wanted to hear from Gesaffelstein. The album is unlike anything else, which from his previously released singles, I didn’t expect anything less from the innovative artist. The album has a grim mood throughout, yet it is so intriguing that you cannot help but be completely invested in each song. My favorite right now off of the album is “So Bad” featuring HAIM.
Daya – “Insomnia”
Daya is a continuing to rise as a pop star, and with every new release, she keeps reminding me how influential she can continue to be in pop music. The dance heavy track has an essence of Robyn and Tove Lo with its moody lyrics and club beat, which makes it impossible to not groove along to on a night out.
Party Favor & GTA – “Work It Out”
We really are getting layers upon layers from Party Favor with every release, and this is only the beginning. His upcoming album, Layers, is set to be released this April, but until then, we have another new single off of it—this time it’s featuring GTA. “Work It Out” is heavy-hitting, in your face, and an absolute banger. Party Favor is not here to mess around, and this is just another new release to prove that.
Local Natives – “When Am I Gonna Lose You?”
The Local Natives are back with their first song in two years, and they also have a new album on the way. “When Am I Gonna Lose You” is everything that I love about this indie band. Sweet, soft, and just so lovable, the Local Natives have a perfect essence to them that is just what I am needing from the indie genre in 2019. Their new album is set to be released next month.
