The Drop – The Chainsmokers, Brockhampton, & Jungle
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
The Chainsmokers – “Side Effects” (Pick of the week)
Prior to this new release, the DJ duo had gone on a promo frenzy about this song and how it was going to be an absolute summer bop, and they did not disappoint. “Side Effects” collabs with The Chainsmokers favorite vocalist Emily Warren. She has been tapped for vocals numerous times for The Chainsmokers, however, this is the first official single released that she is present on. The song is bouncy and electric when it drops into the groovy chorus.
This one has been on constant repeat for me, therefore it is my pick of the week.
Jungle – “Heavy, California”
“Heavy, California” comes as part of a two single release from Jungle, which also helped announced their upcoming second album, For Ever. They bring the funk and falsettos on their latest track, making it an effortless end to this summer. Their album is set to release September 14th.
RL Grime – NOVA
The talent and artistry from RL Grime is undeniable, and it becomes even more apparent on his latest project NOVA. Fans have been waiting a long time for this one, and it was well worth the wait. A heavy combination of hip-hop, future bass, and 808’s RL Grime taps into a new space of music from his previous projects. Dark and moody, yet open and free are becoming an iconic sequence of emotions that allow listeners to go on this journey of melodies with RL Grime. NOVA is becoming a fast masterpiece and the best album release from dance music thus far in 2018.
Brockhampton – “1997 DIANA”
Along with an announcement of their upcoming album, the best year of our lives, the super group has also released two new singles. “1997 DIANA” is one of the two, and it is everything I love about Brockhampton. An upbeat hip-hop fusion that is made for the dance floor or the main stage. There isn’t an official release date for the upcoming project, but it is in the works and on its way.
88rising feat. Playboi Carti – “Beam”
The universal hip-hop group has become one of my favorites that have come onto the scene, and are taking the genre to a whole new level. Their debut album, Head In The Clouds, showcases the many ranges and talents that the group encompasses, and continues to mesh all into one story. “Beam” calls on Playboi Carti for an extra flow that creates a mecca of hip-hop all into one.
David Guetta & Anne-Marie – “Don’t Leave Me Alone”
David Guetta continues to be the perfect combination of dance and pop music. Finding the perfect medium of both genres, and creating fun and flavorful tracks that I can’t help but love. Anne-Marie is a rising artist in pop, and has also found her way onto previous dance tracks with artists like Marshmello. The song is an easy-going and lovable track from the duo.
