The Drop – The Weeknd, Sam Smith, & Walk The Moon
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd – “Lost in the Fire”
The Gesaffelstein and Weeknd pairing has become one of my favorites in music by far. I cannot help but keep this song on repeat, and only hope for more music from them. Both Gesaffelstein and The Weeknd have new music planned for 2019 in addition to Gesaffelstein’s Coachella appearance. I am keeping my fingers crossed for more tracks like “Lost in the Fire.”
Sam Smith & Normani – “Dancing With A Stranger”
Another pairing that I am vibing with comes from Sam Smith and Normani’s latest track, “Dancing With A Stranger.” This sultry song has the perfect tempo to groove along to, while the vocals from both pop stars make for a charming, catchy track.
Lana Del Rey – “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it”
Lana Del Rey releasing this track is a promise being fulfilled that new music was coming from the songstress. The fans asked and they received “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it.” This song is brooding and moody in true Lana fashion, which only leaves me wanting more. Lana is set to release her new album sometime this year.
Grey & LÉON – “Want You Back”
The Grammy-nominated duo, Grey, is stepping into 2019 with a new single, as well as the promise to release a lot of new music. For their first release of the new year, they tapped on indie pop singer, Léon, who is known for her heartfelt lyrics and folk sounding vocals—her tones are even more electrifying against the synthy beats given by Grey. If this is just a taste of what Grey is bringing into 2019, then I will be eagerly waiting for more.
WALK THE MOON – “Timebomb”
Walk The Moon is back with an upbeat and dance-heavy tune that showcases remnants of their 2014 hit, “Shut Up and Dance” and their 2018 release titled “One Foot.” This is the Walk The Moon that I love, and I can only hope this means there is more music from the group coming this year. Walk The Moon kicks off their headlining tour this month prior to their arena tour alongside Muse.
Billie Eilish – “WHEN I WAS OLDER”
Inspired by the movie Roma, Billie Eilish’s new release is one of her most ambitious yet. Every song Eilish releases becomes more driven and intriguing. “WHEN I WAS OLDER” is full of whisper tone vocals and music box chimes that make the song eerie yet irresistible, which the more I listen to her the more I realize that this is the brilliance of Billie Eilish. This young talented artist continues to impress me.
Party Favor – “2012”
Party Favor is prepping to take over in 2019, and his latest single titled “2012” is only the beginning. This track is big and delivers a ton of bass, making it the trap worthy anthem it is. Party Favor is set to release his upcoming album, Layers, along with his headlining show at the Hollywood Palladium this coming April. Stay tuned for all things Party favor because this artist is about to have himself a year.
