The Drop – Troye Sivan & Jauz
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Troye Sivan – “Plum”
The album I have been waiting all summer for has finally been released, and it is pop perfection. Troye Sivan has completely captured the essence that I love about dream pop. It is light and lovely—a nonstop love story from start to finish. The track tiled “Plum” is a dance-worthy sing-along that is easily one of my favorite songs off of the album. Troye Sivan’s album, Bloom, is out everywhere now.
Jauz, Adventure Club, & Kyle Pavone – “Frequency”
Jauz has just released his fourth chapter album called The Wise and The Wicked, and it is unlike any dance music album I have heard before. It tunnels through so many versions of his sound and tells a story with every new chapter. “Frequency” features Adventure Club and Kyle Pavone who recently passed away, which makes this song an extremely special feature on the album. It is big and grand, and has become my favorite song off of the album. This is Jauz’s most ambitious project yet, and he has completely risen to a whole new level in dance.
Lauv – “Superhero”
Sweet and simple is what Lauv embodies, and that is exactly what his latest release, “Superhero,” is. There is a build up throughout the entire song over charming lyrics that creates a heartfelt love song that I cannot get enough of.
Betty Who – “The Other Side”
Betty Who is another artist in the genre of indie/dream pop that I always find myself coming back to. Her voice is a crisp and gentle tone that fits perfectly over the light and airy beats in her music. “The Other Side” is an easy listen to groove along to.
Wild Nothing – “Through Windows”
“Through Windows” sounds like a classic surf rock tune that is meant for the sunniest of beach days, or cruising around on a road trip. Buoyant guitar riffs and lighthearted lyrics make this the perfect song I needed to end summer with. If you love Grouplove or Empire of the Sun, this is a song for you.
Zhavia Ward – “Deep Down”
“Deep Down” is a wavy track from Zhavia Ward. A splash of R&B and pop all mixed into one make her latest song a bit funky with a big band feel for the chorus. Zhavia Ward has even bigger vocals, and has recently become one of my new favorite artists to watch.
Say My Name & Lil Debbie – “Say My Name”
Say My Name brings the trap with his latest release. Lil Debbie takes care of the flow on the vocals, while Say My Name brings heavy beats and a lot of bass. Say My Name gives us a self-titled banger that is ready for the main stage.
