The Drop – ZHU, Tame Impala, & Mumford & Sons
The Drop is us cutting through the massive jungle of new music that’s been released over the last seven days. We sharpen our proverbial machetes and cut through the shit to get you to the content that you need to be listening to.
This is The Drop.
Selena Gomez – “Lose You To Love Me”
Selena Gomez has made her return to pop music with a double release, “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.” The track, “Look At Her Now,” takes on a bouncy chorus and a high energy beat, while “Lose You To Love Me” hones in on her emotional journey from then to now. It is a song dedicated to finding your own self-worth, and Selena Gomez tells her story with grace and ease.
ZHU & partywithray – “Came For The Low”
This song is so addicting—I have had it on a constant loop since its release. This new collab track, “Came For The Low,” is an underground sounding mystique that matches the obscure presence that ZHU takes on. ZHU and partywithray deliver the exact single that ZHU fans have been craving.
Mumford & Sons – “Blind Leading The Blind”
Mumford & Sons are in preparation to release new music leading into 2020, and this is the first glimpse of their sound with the album titled single, “Blind Leading The Blind.” This song has been discussed over the past several years, and was finally premiered at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. The song tackles plenty of subjects in a raw and honest manner about the social issues of our world in a completely Mumford way.
Tame Impala – “It Might Be Time”
Tame Impala is another group of artists going into 2020 with a new era of music. After a return to the festival stages, we now have a resurfacing of music with two new singles and an album title from Tame Impala. The songs keep tempo with Tame Impala’s prior sound of psych rock/pop, and it’s as vibey and cool as ever. Their album, The Slow Rush, is set to be released on Valentine’s Day in 2020.
Oh Wonder – “Better Now”
London based duo, Oh Wonder, has released their new single titled “Better Now” from their upcoming album. This song is full of lyrics talking about hopefulness, while in the midst of a tragedy with a loved one. The release is angelic and delicate—and it’s exactly the way Oh Wonder delivers all of their music. This new track is the second release from their upcoming project, which doesn’t have a set release date yet.
Coldplay – “Orphans”
Thank goodness for new Coldplay music. Coldplay is yet another group of artists that is prepping for another new album in 2020, and has also given fans two new singles to melt over. Their new track, “Orphans,” is the Coldplay I know and love; energetic and colorful with Chris Martin’s vocals soaring over the guitar riffs. I am absolutely giddy over new music on their upcoming album, Everyday Life.
