On Wax: Hot Singles And Last Week In Hip-Hop
On Wax is a weekly take updating you on the pocket of culture known as hip-hop. We bring you everything from breaking news to album drops, jail time and who’s beefing with who.
Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign drop a banger
Post Malone has returned with a new track titled “Psycho.” Post enlists modern-day Nate Dogg, AKA Ty Dolla $ign, for a smooth laid-back track that has an R&B feel. Although the track is titled “Psycho,” it’s far from that. Ty and Post do there thing on the song, both giving their signature vocal styles on the Louis Bell pop trap production. It will come as no surprise to see this song everywhere for the next couple of months.
Another hot single came from the likes of biracial rapper, Logic. The Maryland rapper is back with good music once again with a new track titled “44 More;” it’s the sequel to “44 Bars” off his fantastic Bobby Tarantino mixtape. Logic returns to actually spitting bars, giving us a taste of what’s to come in 2018, as Logic consistently drops a project each year. Rumor is we could possibly see a sequel to Bobby Tarantino, but time will tell. Let’s all just rejoice Logic is back to what he’s good at.
Vallejo boys, SOB X RBE, dropped their debut album, (or second depending on who you ask), titled GANGIN. The group is gaining popularity ever since King Kendrick included them on the Black Panther soundtrack that was just released. SOB keep it West Coast on the new release, adding to the sonic sounds of their contemporaries like YG and Nipsey Hustle, while including influences from Bay Area heroes like E-40 and Too $hort. The album also includes an ’80s electro influence, which is dope as all hell to see in 2018.
Kodak Black is still in prison
In another case of divine intervention, Kodak Black has gotten three charges dropped after his house was raided last month on the 18th; charges such as child neglect, possession of a weapon or ammunition, and grand theft of a firearm. Unable to stay out of trouble or at least keep it from finding him, this might be the sign Kodak needs to finally walk away from anything that could jeopardize his pending freedom.
G-Herbo cant stay out of trouble
In less fortunate news, Chicago rapper G-Herbo, along with two other men, were arrested on Thursday for possession of a loaded gun. While it is a severe situation, it is likely that G-Herbo will be released fairly soon. Fresh off the release of “Everything Remix” featuring both Chance The Rapper and Lil Uzi Vert, we hope the Chicago native is able to stay out of trouble, and continue to make the music his fans look forward to.
Tekashi69 catches a fade at LAX
Before Tekashi was leaving LAX, he was rushed by two men as an altercation broke out, and a video surfaced of the incident by TMZ. The incident showed the two men standing their ground against Tekashi’s entourage, while Tekashi was moved out of the way temporarily. When Tekashi did rush in, he ended up on the ground quickly. In some ways this is entertaining, but at the end of the day this doesn’t make anyone or the culture look good. Tekashi, in the end, will continue to say he is untouched as he moves forward challenging anyone who is willing to step up.
Until next week, it’s On Wax.
