What I’m Listening To: Podcasts
If you’re like me, then you’re a fan of podcasts. However, since everyone and their grandma has one, what should you be checking out? Well, here are my recommendations for what to listen to whether you’re driving, working out, or just need something to fill your earholes.
The podcast Criminal just celebrated its 100th episode! If you’ve never heard of the show, it’s a serialized crime storytelling show part of Radiotopia from PRX. The logline is: “Stories of people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle.” Hosted by award-winning journalist, Phoebe Judge, it’s one of the best podcasts out there for true crime fans. In the most recent episode, “Ride-Along,” Phoebe spent time in a police car in Austin, Texas where she learns a few surprising things about a police officer’s work day.
Midterm elections just wrapped in the United States, and the results are in. Unfortunately, there were still some issues with people heading to the polls to vote. Leaving many to wonder: “Why is voting optional?” Well, don’t worry because Today Explained from Vox has you covered with a story about how in Australia it isn’t. In fact, not only are elections mandatory, they’re celebrated with sausage. Give it a listen.
On a more fun side, Episode 432 of My Brother, My Brother, and Me has you question your own sanity as you have to make a decision between Hand Dog or Face Cat. So, which ghoulish companion would you…I guess tolerate more? I’m Face Cat for life!
And finally, from Gimlet media, the podcast titled Reply All just released a fantastic episode entitled “The Snapchat Thief.” Alex Goldman investigates the story of a Snapchat user who got hacked. How and why it happened? It’s a deep dive into a relatively unknown part of the Internet culture, and it has some surprising twists and turns. This podcast episode definitely makes you think twice about two factors: authentication and the value of your phone number.
