Will Cardi’s Debut Album Be Worth the Wait?
With the massive success of last years Bodak Yellow, the pedestrian Cardi B fan probably doesn’t realize that despite numerous singles, collabs, and her highly publicized relationship with Offset from Migos; Cardi has yet to release a full-length album.
Whether you love her or hate her, Cardi B will not be leaving the hip-hop scene anytime soon. With the anticipated release of her debut album, fans are eagerly hoping Cardi’s album will be worth the wait. The 25-year-old rapper from the Bronx said in October 2017 that the album would be released in September, but claims she was under pressure with the release of other songs; which in turn delayed the release.
Her latest single, “Bartier Cardi”, featuring 21 Savage, was appreciated by her fans who have been waiting for the album release. Since the release in December, the single has been declared Gold status by The Recording Industry Association of America. Thus proving she is not the “one-hit wonder” some hip-hop fans claimed she would be.
She is also featured in multiple tracks including Migos’ single, “Motorsport,” where she raps with her fiancé, Offset, as well as the rest of the Migos’ crew, and the legendary Nicki Minaj. Rapper, G-Eazy, and Latin Artist, Ozuna, have also released popular tracks with Cardi B’s signature
Cardi has slightly addressed the delay by posting on her Instagram Story saying, “Be Patient I will drop my album soon.” Some people believe the discussion of the album is a distraction from recent rumors of pregnancy and her fiancé cheating. However, Cardi has mentioned publicly that this is her life and it’s nobody else’s business.
Even though Cardi B has been in the music industry for a while, seeing how hard she has been working since the release of Bodak has made me, personally, excited for the new album. Cardi has also expanded on her industry connections over the past couple of months, which will likely mean some powerful features on the album. Although I do not expect it to be Album of the Year (my vote right now is the Black Panther album), I believe it will have some hits that will definitely become overplayed in the months to come.
